Sober date?
Okay, so I think I finished up my last drink at about 6 this morning... So is today my first day sober? Is tomorrow? When I wake up tomorrow I'll have 24 hours sobriety behind me. What's the proper date?
Hi Sleepie!
On my last night of drinking I think I finished my last beer around 1 am on a Monday morning. That to me was night; Sunday night. I passed out, woke up at 10 am. Monday was my day 1.
I say call it day 1.
For example I am awake right now at 4:32 am with insomnia. I feel like like my day 7 starts when I wake up today at lunchtime. :rotfxko

Minority Opinion
"...AA uses your last drink date..."
This is only partially true. AA doesn't 'use' anything/any date. Some AAer's use their last drinking date; some AAer's use their first day of not drinking.
...and here I am, the 'minority opinion' person; I don't use either. My last drinking/arrest 'binge' was over a weekend (and believe me, TX jails are NOT nice...LOLOL); on late Monday night, I called a hotline and found a meeting for me for the following Monday, early evening; from then until Wednesday/Thursday (can't remember which one), I drank a bit, but on that last day I started a beer and just couldn't finish it (who'd-a-thunk-it), and from then till that Monday meeting, I didn't drink. At that meeting I made the decision to quit 'for good 'n all......and that's the date I chose for my DOS, and come this Wednesday, it will have been 24 years since I made that decision at that Monday evening's, Womyn's Back to Basics meeting.....
Personally, I don't think it makes a hill 'o beans what date a person uses, or even if they use a date atall; just stop (AA's Step-1) to get sober, and find a design for living (AA's Steps 2-12) that will help a person change to stay sober.......but then this is all just my personal opinion. (o:

8-11-90 is my first full
sober date.
I entered rehab 8-10-90
the same day I had my
last drink wee hours of
that morning.
After pondering my best
sobriety date and hearing
suggestions from those
with yrs recovery behind
them, i decided on the next
day as my sobriety date.
A full day with no alcohol
in my system.

I had my last drink, on my last relapse, at about 3pm. I was nursing a severe hangover at the time, on 9-23-08. I picked up my 1 year chip on 9-24-09. My home group meets at 730am, and at 730am on 9-23-09 I was still 7-1/2 hours shy of a full year, so I waited until the next day.
Personally I don't think it matters much, I think your state of mind and serenity level is much more important to maintaining your sobriety.
