My of medical conditions cured by quitting drinking (add yours)
#1 Stage 2 Hypertension (now I'm at 110/70, perfect)
#2 GERD (had it bad for years, haven't had it since I quit)
#3 IBS
#4 Hemmoroids
#5 Anxiety
And thats only after 14 days sober.. Although this isn't my first time quitting, everytime I've relapsed, all of these come back within a week and go away within a week.. I pray everyday to stay feeling as good as I do now.

- My BP also went back to normal.
- Fasting blood glucose is perfect (was elevated, pre-diabetes level before)
- Depressive cycles are all but completely gone
- Anxiety persists but it's largely situational instead of constant
- Weight has been dropping and I'm exercising regularly
Rheumatoid arthritis is not cured but is much better.
Gout - all but gone
Eyesight - got better as I was so dehydrated by drinking, it affected the amount of moisture in my eyeballs and hence my sight. I still wear glasses to see far away but my vision has improved if you can believe that.
Bursitis of my left elbow is completely gone.
I am on no medication for any of the above but I will take 2 aleve once a week or so for Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I don't want to scare anybody with doctor stuff, but since ceasing consumption of endless calories, I have developed the chronic (and potentially lifelong) condition known in the medical community as "reduced beer belly". Significant complications include an increase in attention from the opposite sex, higher energy levels, and the need for new pants.
I know we're not supposed to give medical advice or anything, but I don't want somebody reading this to be unprepared for the consequences of their decisions.

High Blood Pressure seems to be the biggie for most of us as mine went back to normal when I quit. I was pre-hypertension back in the 12 pack era. Of course the gut reduction is also a plus, now I am trying to avoid getting into snacking too much so I don't put the 15 lbs I lost right back on.

-BP went back to normal
-Heart rate went back to normal and was able to get off beta blockers
-Vision is much better (my vision was very blurry in one eye while drinking)
-Lost weight (face is no longer puffy)
-Anxiety is gone
-Off my anti-depressant
-No more IBS
-No more insomnia
All of this happened within the first 4 months of sobriety for me, most within just a few weeks.

Medical Conditions after quitting drinking...
Hi Everyone,
Since I am a woman I didn't have a "beer belly" to lose & I do have an ex- husband that was so glad I quit drinking...he married me a second time.
The most visible medical condition I had was a "very very red face" that I told people was adult acne. Do you believe that! I also have arthritis that wasn't very painful until I quit drinking...RA..Osteo..Fibromyalgia & I cannot tolerate any kind of pain narcotic but do use celebrex, methocarbamol, & tylenol PM at bedtime. It took 9 months for my red face to go away. One of my best kudos for quitting drinking.
I also have Chronic Depression & take meds for it & have regular blood work-ups to see that my meds are holding at the right level & that they are not doing any damage to my innerds!!! I have a work up that would be expected to belong to a young adult. Also an excellant chloesterol level & I am 69 years old. I do take medication for hypertension which stays good unless I am under a lot of stress or in a lot of pain.
