Combined Program
Has anybody worked a combined program which is a both a 12-step and non 12-step program? Do you think a combined program which combines a REBT and 12-step approach more powerful than a traditional 12-step recovery program?
I just cleared by my sponsor to sponsor other guys and people in prison. I am thinking about use the combined program as a method to deal with addiction.

It sounds like you work the 12-step system yourself? Use your own experience would be my advice. Getting into other area's of recovery might muddle up the very crux of what you have to offer - Your experience!

Hmmm....
I know you have been mixing up your recovery methods.
For awhile you wanted to start your own SMART group.
And glad to know you are finally sober...
But.....No. You are going into prison service work
as a spokesperson for AA. Nothing else.
The same is true about being an AA sponsor.
I'm surpized your sponsor did not explain
more clearly to you.
And....if you feel that compromises your ethics
you should not be doing these particular AA
service jobs.
I suggest you join the literature committee instead.
Or your groups supply committee.

That's good and I certainly hope that is where
you will do your service work......
rather than prisons or AA sponsorship.
In the official AA guideline on sponsorship....
it says nothing about combineing programs.
People wishing to follow AA.....
expect to be mentored in basic AA.
That is a sponsors purpose....
helping others with the AA Steps.
SMART and other programs ..however good...
are not AA.
You might want to check in your BB for
"Working With Others" and "How It Works"
for directions.
Soooo....again.....I say no.....

philosophy, religion and medicine. It made perfect sense to me to try an eclectic approach. I ended up wasting 2 to 3 years barking up the wrong trees.
It turned out that nothing that made sense helped me because it was still "my idea". In the end I had to surrender (my old ideas) to win.
