Many in both my mother and father's side, but my parents were not alcoholics themselves, although I have seen them drunk several times in parties.
I have seen uncles dying from it... and from lung cancer. How I got into drinking and smoking is still a mistery. Does it really run in the family or perhaps the vast majority of people (alcoholics or not) could track back some alcoholics in their direct family?

it certainly dosent run in my family, my parents were food addicts, they hated alcohol with a passion, almost all their money would be spent on food,
each meal time they would serve up MASSIVE platefuls, and i would be expected to eat the lot (whether hungry or not)
but not alcohol, never , my dad reluctantly had a shandy once and complained he felt dizzy,
my aunts and uncles were not drinkers either and definitely NEVER my grandparents, i have no siblings so i'm not sure where my problem came from
