Ok, thx.
I'm strugglin' like a mofo. I think a support group would be helpful after all? But it need to be the right kind. The AA meetings I have gone to is where people stand up and tell thier latest story of thier battle(s). What I need is more of a group therapy kind of setting where I can interact with others who are having the same sturggles and we can have open conversations about it. Are there AA meetings like that?

I called AA today and the guy told me they don't do 'cross talk' at AA meetings. Some have suggested trying to connect with folks after the meeting to have personal discussions. What I'm really looking for is a kind of group therapy support group, for alcoholics. I've been in group therapy in the past for depression, and thats what I'm really looking for. I wanna discuss with others openly and honestly about the struggles of alcohol and I don't think this is AA's thing. Is there such support out there?

No....AA meetings are not conducted
in the same style as group therapy
Yes....before and after the 1 hour of meeting time
you can find members willing to share their personal
experiences in a less structured manner.
We often have members go for coffee after....
we usually need a large table for those gatherings....
How in the world will you actually know if AA is or
is not for you? You go to maybe 6 different meetings.
Out the dorr ..into action...come see what we can
do for you.. expand your mind....

After 20 years of drinking and making poor life decisions i finally accepted that the very last person i needed to help me get sober was me, i wouldn't have trusted myself to go and buy a loaf of bread...fortunately i got a sponsor in AA who had been restored to sanity and he showed me the way:-)
Mind you it did take me to get right to the edge, with huge emotional pain and to be absolutely desperate before i would finally accept that i was totally insane and had been all along...othwerwise i would have been off on my next great idea!

I know what you mean. I don't really trust myself right now.

You don't have to choose between AA or group therapy
You can do AA for your drinking/recovery
Plus group therapy for other issues.
I know AA members who find both useful ...

Wow, that's huge. From "not going to use any program", to "I'll give AA another try?" Huge.
There is some openmindedness, and willingness at work in you!
Best of luck! Do you have a copy of the book Alcoholics Anonymous? I would suggest reading and seeing where you identify if you are open to it. Even better would be to have someone take you through it since you like talking with someone as you wrote.
This would be a sponsor, just for you. Someone to discuss it all with, as you wrote you are looking for.
You could also read it online, or most libraries have copies to borrow.
