My name is Joe and i'm an alcoholic

I'm currently going through alcohol withdrawal right now. I think I have officially passed 24 hours. I'm experiencing all the symptoms and it is horrible. I'm tired of everything alcohol has stripped of my life. This is not my first time of trying to quit, however, I hope that this will be my last attempt.

(((Hug)))

You never have to feel this way again.

WELCOME!

If you're doing this alone, or with anyone else for that matter, trust your instincts if they tell you to go to the hospital by car or ambulance.

Yes, I am doing this alone. I have been shacked up in my apt. for the last several days. Yesterday was really bad. If things do go sour, I will go to the hospital. The problem is that I dont have my wallet. Because I was drunk and stupid, I lost my wallet. Things seem to be 50% less severe than yesterday.

Thanks for joining us down here Joe...

Glad you will go to an ER if necessary.
If you are missing your insurance card
I think the hopsital can trace it on their end.

Don't hesitate to seek assistance
Do you remember what the Betty Ford Clinic
did when you de toxed there?

I'm thinking about drinking lots of water
cutting out caffeine ...trying to eat crackers
toast ... clear soup..... Gatorade is also good.

Good, good. So, tomorrow hopefully you'll be 50% better than today. Speaking of tomorrow, what are your recovery plans? Hope you don't plan to white knuckle this into next week.

Well, you can look at losing your wallet as a sign you need a new identity. :-)

Carol- when i went into Betty Ford Clinic last year, I had already been almost 2 weeks sober before checking in. The reason was because I had fought the idea of going in all the way to the front door.

Carol, are you asking me what they did for my detox because you are detoxing yourself right now?

Alizeran- my plan is to go back to AA and I truly need to get a sponsor this time around. After leaving Betty Ford, I never committed to the whole AA thing. I actually went 10 months being sober without going to AA meetings. I really need to nail this in the rear because I cant be living my life like this. I'm surprised that I havent gotten into serious trouble with the law since I went back to drinking.

Keep going! What are your withdrawals this time? This could be the last time you quit. I highly recommend a support group like AA. It really helps me. I am almost at 11 months without a drop of alcohol!

I am so stoked!

Joe.....
No...I am not going thru withdrawals now.
But I have helped others do them since I quit drinking.

I have been an AA recovered alcoholic for years.
When I began my Step work...I felt a shift in perception.
I was not only sober....but starting solid recovery.
Glad to know you will be going back...

Well i do have brownies and some light pancake syrup but other than that, I dont have any sweets. I keep getting this syringed feeling down my throat. I'm guessing it probably has something to do with all the reflux acid from vommitting or it could be the alcohol that burned my esophagus.

Glad to hear it joe.

i got no wisdom for withdrawals......it sucks period.
i presume you have experience of this and have taken advice...take it easy.

in terms of AA...I did what you may have done.......drifted in...drifted out.
life became unbearable drunk and sober.

i was a vagrant.....with all that entails.
i was a hopeless chronic alcoholic.......
i turned to the 12 steps because it was that or blow my head off......i didnt believe it would give me relief like booze does.......

like alot it my life i prejudged it and got it wrong......

a simple program set me free..........im not a puppet to booze anymore and havent been for nearly ten years.
life can be and is good without booze.

get well and get posting......and if i can be of any help please feel free to pm me.....shaun.

p.s if you get a minute take a trip to 12 step support and introduce yourself.
they dont bite.........well not hard anyway..lol

It has been hard to sleep and i'm just reading all these posts. Everyone in here have been really nice. In fact, people on these boards are a lot nicer than the people in the actual meetings. In some way it's very comforting but at the same time, I feel that I dont deserve it. I'm just ashamed and disappointed in myself that again I am right back where I started. I dont think many people get the chances that I do. For example, I was fortunate to go to rehab last year. I didnt leave that place planning to drink a year later. Unfortunately, I seem to be the type of person that learns the hard way. I'm just afraid this is not my bottom. I'm not sure if this is depression talking but it is just what is on my mind.

Joe: We're all that type of person. It's called being an alcoholic. Part of the insidiousness of the disease is that most of us can't escape it unless it's "the hard way".

Good luck & welcome.

This is the best plan I can imagine, Joe. Many, many people hang around AA and try to stay sober on the fellowship. Most of those are gone within a year. The ones who have a sponsor show them in the BB the directions for having a spiritual awakening as the result of the Steps, and follow those directions like their life depends on it, rarely fail to stay sober. Best of luck to you.

I am so tired right now but I'm preventing myself from sleeping because I keep waking up drenched in sweat. I've already switched out of 4 pairs of clothes because they are drenched in sweat. It's happening every hour. I cant seem to get through an hour without dreaming and then waking up in sweat. I think the cold sweats are the worst because you feel like you are sleeping in snow.
