Question counseling

My abf has finally decide to go to counseling for his problems. The biggest thing that concerns me is that he is doing it to get me back instead of for himself. Have any of you went to counseling on your own? Did you do it for yourself or someone else? Did you stick with it? I moved out recently and although i believe he is finally taking a step i am a bit worried as to why.

I did see a psychiatrist for depression...who finally suggested
I abstain from drinking. He also suggested AA.
The next day I was at an AA meeting.

Within 2 months ...I quit seeing my psychiatrist
because I was no longer depressed...

You are still having contact with your last lover?
How's that benefitting you?

You can use your loved ones for motivation but you have to do it for yourself. If you are doing it solely for your loved ones then what happens if you are on a business trip and no one is watching? My guess is that you are in real danger of relapse if you are in that type of situation and you aren't in it for yourself.
