Prayers needed for Barbdywer

I've been in contact with ((Barb)) through pm.

Most of you know that she lives in Butte, MT, where it is freezing cold. Her apt. building is over 100 years old and the pipes are always freezing. She's been looking for another place to live.

Her landlord handed her an eviction notice, yesterday, saying she has to be out by January1!! I pointed out that, in most cases, they can't evict a person without 30 days notice, but she says "there's the law, then there's BUTTE law" and I do understand the "good 'ol boy" system.

The landlord has said Barb gave HER notice - she didn't..she just said that she was looking for something else.

I mentioned to her that she post here, as many people here have been on both sides of eviction, as well as many have legal backgrounds. More than anything, ((Barb)) is much loved, here, and I know people care a lot about her (like me).

I've recommended she go to the housing authority on Monday, and she is planning on doing this.

If anyone else has other suggestions or ideas, please let her know. More than anything, please keep my dear friend in your prayers. She's going through health issues on top of all this, and she's feeling a bit overwhelmed, though is still as strong in her recovery as she always is.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Most housing laws on in favor of the tenant.
I know this from my experience renting my house.
If she's not out, the landlord *probably* cannot do a dang thing about it but take her to court. Let him! It'll cost *him* a fortune!
My guess is that he's bluffing.

Oh, and she can find out the laws of Butte online. No cost to her.
If he violates her, *he's* in violation,
and she gets a free lawyer to sue his arse!

Best of wishes.
Sorry about the bad timing.

Thanks ((Historyteach)) and ((Carol)) - I knew about the other thread, but since she's been given a week's notice, I figured extra prayers couldn't hurt.

I did suggest she look online about eviction legalities but apparently Butte has a "legal system" that's pretty questionable. I have a feeling something will work out, but I still feel bad that she's going through this.

Hugs and prayers!

My best positive thoughts still going out for Barb. I fully understand the horror she's going through with this. My Slum Lord tries to evict the few people in our little building from time to time. I don't know the laws in Butte or what services may be available to her.

Frankly, I think the tenants should get together and document what they have been living with. Who knows, the courts may decide the tenants are owed some back rent and maybe some moving expenses.

Unfortunately, the legal cogs turn slowly so it there's no immediate help, most likely.

Maybe contacting the local hospital Social Services might help find some resources for a place to go. And with Barb's medical problems, there may be more help.

Mega-thoughts for this. And much love to Barb! Amy, thanks for posting this! I believe in the power of concentrated thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Lenina

Oh, and consider contacting the local elected officials and the press. Name and Shame can work wonders.

I really miss my "thank you" button Barb HAS been taking pictures of the frozen pipes for documentation.

I really appreciate the prayers and positive vibes. ((Barb)) is tough...years of recovery have taught her that she will be okay, but like most of us, we get a little stressed when something like this happens. She can only get on the internet when she is at work so I'm sure she will check in when she can.

I know, myself, how powerful the prayers and support of my SR friends is. If nothing else, it has given me peace when chaos surrounds me, and I am grateful for you all.

Hugs and prayers!

Also, Catholic Charities might have some advice and suggestions for finding a new place. It can't hurt to call them and ask.

Love,

AWWWWWWWWwwwwww... ************************{Impurrfect}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

and

************************{everyone}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

uh, yeah.
So much for Xmas, huh?

It's a nasty situation, and getting nastier.
FORTUNATELY,
one can't swing a dead cat in the rooms of AA
without hitting a recovering attorney.
Or without hitting someone
in the housing for the poor advocacy business.

So,
I have an emergency phonecall for him on his answering service.

When the pipes blew up -
she told me I was not to pay for December.
AND that she'd pay part of my power bill because
there were three heaters trained on the frozen pipes.

Now-
less than a week later -
she's texted me that I owe her for December AND January rent
at the same time
or I've got 72 hours to vacate.

You know what's wild?
Drinking ... or abusing my pain meds...
has just ... not been an option.

In fact, the only time it occurred to me at all
was when someone else brought it up.

Thank you everone so much for you thoughts
Of course I'll be making TONS of phonecalls tomorrow.

Please don't forget about me,
I truly believe in the prayer circle here.

I need 'em as much as I need the air.
And I'm very grateful for each of you.
Thank you.

Being able to post here,
and to ready YOUR posts ...

gets me out of my OWN head for a while...

You truly *do* keep me sober.

Thank you, SR!

barb,

We you given anything writing? This could make a difference. I don't know if text messages count. What are the other tenants doing? Great idea about finding an attorney in the rooms. And surely someone will know about emergency housing.

Mega vibes being sent your way. Do keep us posted.

Love,

Lenina

it's a fourplex.

two apts on top
two underneath.
I'm in one downstairs.

The pipes are only broken
in the apartment next door.
However -
there WAS a frozen stretch of pipe
that clogged
making the toilets from upstairs
backwash into my bathtub.

She got that fixed
under duress
after leaving it for three days.
Of course I took photos.

The man in the apt next to me
doesn't LIVE in the apartment
he just rents the place
for a heated storage for his Harley Davidson.
He's an engineer at the mine
and makes more money
than he hase sense.

The people upstairs
are relatives.

I will cvall the Housing Authority
the Salvation Army
and
The Catholic Church.
Even the Mormons
if I need to.

By this point -
I just want AWAY from thie crazy person.

I've not slept
but three hours
in four days.
Everything I've eaten
uh...
didn't stay.

I cant keep food down at this point.
I managed with some turkey dressing
late last night
that's the first in days.

I'm going to be okay-
I may lose everything again
But I'll lose everything

... sober.
And clean.

barb,
you are my heroine!
you keep up the good fight, clean and sober. its the only way to win.
have you considered calling a local tv station?
here in the metro detroit area, every station has their "get the bad guy" thing going on.
it is hilarious to see these slumlords being chased down by a news crew with cameras and the the news man saying "we just want to ask you a few questions sir!"
"did you tell this lady she had 72 hours to vacate in the dead of winter?"
"did you go through the court system to get her evicted legally?"
we just want to straighten this out and get your side of the story!
LOL
i love it.
keep the power barb. and i will send whatever strength i got your way.
