My friend an alcoholic?

Hi guys just wondering if anyone could give me there opinions on if my friend is an alcoholic or not. He drinks 6-8 beers every night 7 days a week. Ive been living with him for about 4 months and I have never seen him not drink any night. He usually gets more drunk when we/he goes to the bar on the weekends. Is this a sign of alcoholism?? He's not violent or anything he just drinks every night of the year.

Let me know
Thanks

Welcome to SR.....

There are several ways to determine if a person is suffering
from the disease of alcoholism. He may be or he may not be.

I knew I was an alcoholic long before I was interested in quitting.
Until and unless he wants to stop...the lable is a non issue.

A better idea for you to consider...is what are you going to do
about living with a drinker? Are you finding it stressful?

Here is a Forum for you to check out...
it's full of others in your situation.

Blessings to both of you...

Hi again.....

I just read this on another post ...
The American Medical Association defines alcoholism as "a primary, chronic disease characterized by impaired control over drinking, preoccupation with the drug alcohol, use of alcohol despite adverse consequences, and distortions in thinking."
Thanks rockworm for posting that information

You are most welcome

Like CarolD, I knew I was an alcoholic before I wanted to stop. Ironically, my family knew I was one before I did. As CarolD pointed out, the family forum may be an ideal spot to get thoughts from others in a similar situation.

how long you've known him, did consumption increase over time or not?
does he appear to be irritated until having a drink?
is drink the first thing after coming back home and calling it a night?
is he looking forward to bar visits and other occasions?
does he have a routine to ensure 6 pack is always there in the evening?
does drinking come at expense of other social activity?
