HELP...My husband...I don't know what to do!
If he has only been on a two day binge it is unlikely that he is going to have DT's and or die. We are unsure of your situation, so we really can't give advice. I know that I was the same way. I would go on a binge, make an excuse for the reason I did it this time and then I would want to be stopped. Taken to emergency room, treatment or whatever. Certainly abstinence is by far the best policy, harm reduction is not a good option at all. If however a person is going to continue to binge, it would pay to work with a doctor and have something prescribed for "nerves" that you could give him to help him stop. The emergency room go around is an expensive option if it is merely used to stop a binge and it is not entirely a medical necessity. I am certainly not saying to cut corners with someones life, but sometimes it is all unnecessary. This is just my experience and is not a recommendation one way or another. A person does not however build up a dangerous physical dependency on alcohol over a short term binge. It takes some time or nearly daily drinking of fairly large quantities of alcohol to produce a critical physical dependency. In that case an emergency room is definitely best if possible.

Carol - Thanks so much. I appreciate your help.
As of this morning - he has agreed to go to Eric Clapton's Facility in Antigua for a 30 day program. They're working on getting a flight for him on Monday. I hope this helps. If he shows signs of dt's this weekend, I will take him to the ER.
