I think your avatar is fine. That's what my mom would have done if I called her to come get me after a drinking spree like that.

Talk about your avatar made me do a google search for Johnny Cash. Of course, I new he was "big" I didn't realize how influential he was until I searched for it.

"dude" I have always loved Johnny's music, and the way he lived and changed is always an inspiration, but the avatar (even though I like it) is secondary as to how your doing.

How much more proof do you need? I can't condemn you because I did the same thing. I KNEW I couldn't keep drinking but went out and had to prove it to myself time and time again. The whole question is...now that you know drinking is causing these problems, are you ready to stop?

Knowing you cannot control your drinking once you start and also knowing that you need help staying away from the first one is positively and absolutely important.

But you want to know what else is absolutely essential to sobriety? You have to want to do this deal, to submit to a few directions, and to take some action on it via the steps (if you're going to give A.A. a try) or whatever program you choose to go with.

Proof is great, but there are many dying alcoholics who cannot get this chance.

Give NIN all the cred, but Johnny Cash tore that song up!!!!!!!! Who would ever...and I mean EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR want to touch that song after that Johnny Cash rendition?

That Dude...
You lived thru the stupid, insane things we alcoholics do when we are drunk, THIS TIME.

We aren't guaranteed tomorrow.

We aren't guaranteed another recovery.

You have a gift..you are alive and sober today.

Don't waste it.

Wrong you are there!!

You can drink, you just can't stop

Pretty much sums up why a lot of us are in this forum

It was special for Johnny to do "Hurt" because it was right after his wife, June, died and he soon died after. It was one of his last recordings.......He also tore up Elvis Costello's "Own Personal Jesus". and guys I havent had a drink in about 96 hours and I got my FINAL white chip last night.

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by one desire
I fell down into a ring of fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire
Went down, down, down and the flames went higher
It burns, burns, burns that ring of fire, that ring of fire

The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Ohhh but the fire went wild

I fell into a burning ring of fire
Went down, down, down and the flames went higher
It burns, burns, burns that ring of fire, that ring of fire and it burns

I fell into a burning ring of fire
Went down, down, down and the flames went higher
It burns, burns, burns that ring of fire, that ring of fire

The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like ours meet
I hide before you like a child
Ohhh but the fire went wild

I fell into a burning ring of fire
Went down, down, down and the flames went higher
It burns, burns, burns that ring of fire, that ring of fire

One more time
I fell into a burning ring of fire
Went down, down, down and the flames went higher
It burns, burns, burns that ring of fire, that ring of fire
That ring of fire
That ring of fire

Right on Dude Great work!

BTW I like Johnny Cash, I was just thinking that maybe showing him in his early defiance stage with his middle finger out may not have been the best pic for acceptance & recovery. But hey if its working ....

Here is one of JC's more gospel songs, I like this song too ;-)

"God's Gonna Cut You Down"

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

OK just saw this & had to share. Johnny having fun impersonating Elvis LMAO

Red face

Congratulations on making it back in one piece. It can get much worse

I've heard it said that if you want to get out of the hole you've dug, Stop

Digging. You're not digging anymore so now it's time to look for a way out.

A serious consequence may be the push you need to get back to AA, or you could go down now and leave that story for someone else to tell...up to you:-)

Good morning to all.....Haha not sure if this thread is about Johnny Cash are me being sober. Its cool though, JC is a good inspiration. He had talent, fame, fortune, and still had demons, but he never gave up and thats what my avatar means to me. It says screw you to everyone and everything thats trying to keep you down. I believe that picture was taken while doing a free show for prisoners in Folsom Prison.

On the other, it feels good to wake up sober. The whole sleeping thing is weird though. I keep having dreams about using. I'll just take awhile. So, I am off to the gym, school, and then a meeting. And I am not going to drink today.
Talk to you guys later.

It wasn't Costello, but Marilyn Manson !!Who'd a thunk it?

One of the last songs he wrote... One of my favorite, still gives me chills, When The Man Comes Around...

And I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder: One of the four beasts saying: "Come and see." And I saw. And behold, a white horse.
There's a man goin' 'round takin' names. An' he decides who to free and who to blame. Everybody won't be treated all the same. There'll be a golden ladder reaching down. When the man comes around.
Dude....

I am really happy to see you are sober this AM and goin' to the Gym. Keep coming back. Maybe this thread was about two things, but you inspired it... Lots of folks care... And if your sick of Johnny, you can always start a new one

Good to be sober...

Mark
