Still sober since April

Just thought I'd drop by and say "hello". Since giving up booze(in April), which I used to medicate myself, I have finally gotten my life back. It appears that an obsessive disorder was more responsible for my condition than the booze was, but I'm not going back to booze, of course. I have been on Lexapro for a month and a half, and it has made a world of difference in how I feel, although it has "calmed me down" in a side-affected category....I think the med was needed. I have not once had the urge to drink since stopping. Hope y'all are doing better, too!

Congrats to you on your sober time... I recently "realized" that I was dual diagnosis with OCD being part of it. You are an inspiration to the rest of us!

Thanks! I thought I had OCD(still think maybe), but according to a LCSW that I went to, I have a condition that is similar, but he says it's a "notch" below OCD, and he thinks cognitive therapy is all I need, and I may be able to get off the meds later on. Wishful thinking, but I feel good with Lexapro. Scared to get off it anytime soon! Of course when I first started obsessing, and quit drinking, I thought I was an alcoholic, since the mental symptoms were similar. I had developed a tolerance to alcohol, so quitting was a good thing. Now, I realize that BOTH factors were getting me down. Good luck to you!!

Congratulations!
That is a major accomplishment. I hope you continue in your strong new lifestyle.
NEVER get thoughts that "drinking isn't that bad" or "i can handle it."
Drinking doesn't make you better, it doesn't help in the least. (I'm talking to myself here more than you. ).
