Great book!

I've seen many people mention this book "Beyond the Influence" here on SR over the past 6 months and I ended up buying it off ebay last week. It came a few days ago and I have to say...what an awesome book this is. I've only had it 2 days and I'm already halfway through it and will probably read it again once I'm done with it.

Really does go into some great deatils about alcoholism and recovery. Some things in it are things that I already knew, but there's actually a lot in the book that I really didn't know about.

Just wanted to say if anyone is having trouble with recovery then I'd highly suggest getting this book!

I got mine off ebay for a mere $4

Steve

It is a great book, anyone with any questions about alcoholism should read it.

I have ordered "Beyond the Influence" the sequel to Under. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Yeah I'm kind doing it backwards, reading the 2nd one first and the first one second lol. I've always been a bit backwards though

The 2nd one seemed really more along the lines of what I need right now though, but once I'm done with this one I'm going to get the first one "under the influence" as well and read that one. I saw that one on ebay for only $4 as well.

Talking Oops

I thought you were reading "Under".

I didn't know that you were reading "Beyond".

I meant to order it years ago when I had a good run at sobriety, and never did.

This time around I wanted to be sure I read it.

Some of the stuff is actually scary. Like how cell structure can actually mutate from too much booze. Lolajames, the authors are Katherine Ketcham and William Asbury.

I'm so glad you got the book Steve! It spoke to me. It helped me finally get my head and heart on the same page. The heart knew I was alcoholic, but the head kept justifying another drink.

That book convinced me to get and stay sober! Thank you CarolD for always recommending it to newbies!

Here's SR's link to excerpts from Under the Influence:

i had the same experience with that book. I remember reading it in the summer, at a park picnic bench, and just being amazed at how much it was describing me. I thought my problems and my drinking were so unique and hidden, and i was just the regular run of the mill common binger described in the book. I felt great finding that out! Real change started to occur for me once i read that book.
