Ever feel like screaming?

I did today!

No real 'reason' really...

I just (after a week of successful sobriety) had one of the strongest cravings I've had yet!!! (Go figure!)

Anyway, after my AA meeting, I was driving home and I had that gut-wrenching 'need' for a drink...

But I knew what would happen if I folded... and it sho wasn't somethin I wanted!

So I took in a DEEEEEEEEP breath, made sure no one was looking, and all my windows were rolled up (was in my car...)

And

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAMED!!!!!!!!!!!

As loud as I possibly could!!!

Then (naturally) the floodgates opened and I sobbed my eyes out ....

And miraculously felt better!

I'm such a sad creature sometimes!

But hell........ if it works, it works, eh?

And I'm happy to say I'm going to bed sober tonight!

You should get a guitar to go with that. A great outlet and something constructive to do with the new time you'll have on your hands! Check out Janis Joplin, now she could belt. I don't know your age, but you most likely have at least heard the song "Take it, just a little piece of my heart now baby!" The primal scream at the apex of that song will give you chills, and she was drunk. Imagine how gratifying it would be sober!
I'm a musician too, but just getting back into it after years of wasted life.
P.S. Smashing class bottles holds some satisfaction as well.

debs,

I've used "scream therapy" too! Usually when I'm driving home from work! There's a road with a long curve that's perfect for screaming. It makes me feel better and I don't think there's anything sad about it. At all!

Love,

Lenina

Thanks Phal i had to google pragmatic, and i agree i am too:-)

Debs you got a sponsor yet? Have you got the big book? Are you going for the coffees (if they have them at that meeting) after? Point is do you think you need to get some more support in place like the above?

Well done on dealing with it yourself yesterday!

Have a great day:-)

I applaud you for making it thru that tempting moment-You have got the spiritual principle of WILLINGNESS on your side so like was mentioned above I hope you get a sponsor to guide you through the 12 steps and give you the support you deserve--the Big Book says a time will come when no mental defense will stop the desire to drink--I know from my own experience I HAD to work the steps w/a sponsor and a whole group of members support helped me--I wish you the best on your journey............

what a great story! I relate to the build up of pressure that comes over time. And i used to discharge that pressure through drinking and excess.
just letting out the energy raw through screaming is more efficient, that's for sure.

everyone needs to let out a scream once in a while nice to see you were able to shy away from your tempations.

I was in a similar situation the other day at a friends where everyone else was drinking but I just needed to remind myself that I was driving and couldn't drink anything. Sure I could have stayed over there but I'd rather sleep in my own bed than on a couch.

Yeah Debs

I'm into bands like Slipnkot and Ministry so I'm screaming all the time.

Works a treat!

hey debs,im with yeahgr8 on this! as soon as i made the desicion to get a sponsor the craving left me.when i got on the steps the obsession left me,i was asking about this in a previous thread of yours, and i posted the 9th step promises.getting well started for me when i started taking action.for me and i speak only for myself,if hadnt of gone and got a sponsor and done what was suggested by doing so,then i was still doing things "my way" well,,my way was one disaster after another so i decided to give the other way a go.its working.best wishes.
