Went out last night

I just moved to a new city and met up with an old friend. We are not just "drinking friends", but we have gotten drunk together a lot out at clubs and parties. Anyway, I have about 3 weeks sober, but I decided to go out for a drink with him and his girlfriend anyways. I don't know what I was planning to do: not drink, order an O'doul's, drink? We got to the bar and I ordered a pint of beer, and I just let it sit. We talked and played pool for about an hour, and my friend says to me, "Is that your second beer?" I tell him no, and that I've got three weeks sober, and I'm not sure if I should drink. So he says, I'll drink it. I say ok. And that was it. Still got three weeks, and I'm feeling good.

Wow! Congrats on your sober time. I am very happy and impressed that you just let that sit there and let your friend drink it. I don't think I could do that. Heck, I don't think I could even go to a bar at all. I have to avoid the wine aisle at the store completely. Good going!

Wow Soberdude,

I have got almost 7 weeks, except Ive had 4 sips, at home.

There is no way I could:

A. Go to bar without drinking
B. Buy a drink and not drink it
C. Watch someone else drink and not drink
D. Buy a beer in a bar, not drink it but give it to someone else and have them drink it.

At least not today.

That is great you could do that after 3 weeks.

Congrats!7

they get some great shots.........but every now and then someone gets bitten...

might be an idea to remember why you stopped drinking and the horror storys that went with it.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I came home last night and told my significant other that I hadn't drunk anything. And I got to thinking that going out to bars really doesn't make sense anymore, if you're not drinking and aren't looking to pickup women. Why do it?

The subconscious 'diseased' mind likes to temp us and test us.
