You probably have already picked up this from Carol but "Under The Influence" is a fascinating book written on the disease of alcoholism. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Carols thread is here:

As CarolD always writes: "Under the Influence" is an excellent book for what you are going through. It scares a lot of people into recovery.

I liked "Go ask Alice". I couldn't put it down. It's a quick read too which works out well for my attention span.

Read Eric Clapton's book. I think it is called simply Clapton.

I tend to avoid the subject matter. I find getting too "in" to being an alcoholic just as destructive as denial. Its easier to think about something else or watch a film.

I read Under the Influence.. It was good intro info.

I really liked "The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure" by Prentiss, I liked the different perspective offered (there's an entire thread on this book, there's lots of pros and cons).

My thearpist also recommended I read "How to Quit Drinking Without AA", and really taking away the fact that it even mentions AA, it's very very basic, and pretty much says, quit drinking, find other stuff to do, get help. SOooooo I dunno, covers a lot of ground, but no depth, I read it in a day.

After those books, I was pretty done reading about addiction and dependency, like Nuclerosis said, I was getting to "in" to it, and it was becoming it's own obsession. ... and I've moved to some other books about growth, relaxation, meditation, etc..

I probably have 50 AA related books. I recommend you go to Hazleton's web site or Amazon and go through their extensive lists. (Yeah, I know. I'm not supposed to mention other web sites!). There are a million books out there, As far as Bill Wilson's biography I'd recommend Susan Cheever's. And, of course, there's always the library.

"Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff. Story about the journey he and his family took through his son's drug addiction. I know you are and addict/alcoholic............I'm a codie. Might be interesting for you to read something writen from the other perspective!!

I like Carlos Castaneda books.

Controversial? Yes, I guess. Spiritual? Absolutely.

I just finished Nic Sheff's, Tweak. He is the son of David. I actually read these back to back and found it helpful and insightful.

crzylilmndfreak if you liked "Dry" you will like the memoir by Brian "Head" Welch the former lead guitar player for Korn called "Save me from myself". I enjoyed both books.

As soon as you start searching any of these books on amazon the site will automatically start proposing more on the subject-especially once you've bought one.

Oooh, I read as much as I can get my hands on too. I just ordered Under the Influence (thanks Carol!). I also ordered Beyond the Influence, and another book that I saw on Dr. Phil the other day called Healing the Addicted Mind.

Back when I was younger and before I was addicted myself, I read a bunch of books on addiction because of my mom's issues. Now I'll probably go back and read them with a different perspective.

One controversial book is A Million Little Pieces. I read that one as well as the sequel and enjoyed them both.

You might also think about a book swap. Not near as expensive that way!
There is a thread, or two, in the Book Club Forum.

Pet Hamill's " A Drinking Life"

Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood
Koren Zailckas. She was in her 20's when she wrote it .
I think she captured the misery of alcoholism for an adolescent and young adult female quite well.
