28 Days & Other Recovery Movies

This is an awesome clip of getting sober from the movie
28 Days with Sandra Bullock.
YouTube - Sandra Bullock "28 Days" Moving Video

Some other my other favorite movies are
- Clean & Sober
- When a Man loves a woman (Meg Ryan's depiction of an alcoholic wife).
- Addiction (HBO Series)
- The Iceman Cometh with Jason Robards.
The Iceman Cometh is intense drama, about the years that
go by in a bar, the dreams of the drinkers, and the realization
that their dreams aren't coming true because they don't work towards them.
- Celebrity Rehab

ya'll got any you use to fuel your recovery?

Leaving Las Vegas with Nicolas Cage is a great movie. Granted it's not about recovery but it does show the devastation of chronic alcoholism.

Lightbulb

I have just spent the last hour watching clips from "When a Man..." WOW, I was just stunned. So now I have to rent it. Any opinions whether or not I should see it alone, preview it or bite the bullet and watch it with my husband? I have to say the clips made me squirm and wince about my own past. (Hence the fear about watching it with him). The good news is that it reinforced for me how awful it was and how blessed and humble I feel now for this opportunity to live a sober life.

So, thank you for this thread. Another one of those coincidences that are not.

Oh "The days of wine and roses" is the one that got to me the most. (old classic with A.A history)There is also "Bills story" which I found very good and shows the beginning of A.A. postcards from the edge ]Has meryl streep and shirley macclain in it. Before women had wings (very moving, I cried) The country Girl (black and white) Drunks They not all about recovery but all about alcohol addiction. Shattered Spirits is a good one covering rehab and the effects of the drinker on family

I would suggest if your on shaky ground to be careful with some of these movies they can really stir up some feelings....maybe have recovery company and wait till feeling stronger in soberity. They made me feel grateful but they can work the other way too, depending on where your at in recovery.

Hide~ About watching When A Man Loves A Woman... I dunno. It hits very close to home for me, too. I've seen it a bunch of times, starting back before drinking was ever an issue for me, and the last time I watched it my husband was sitting next to me for part of it. It really made me squirm. I was terrified he'd ask me things like, "Is that what you did?" or other similar things. But, that was VERY soon after I confessed my problem to him so that might have something to do with how I was thinking at the time.

It's a very intense movie. Once I watched it after developing my own drinking problem, I sobbed and sobbed.

Oh, isn't one of this year's Oscar movies about addiction? The one Anne Hathaway was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for... Rachel Getting Married, or something like that. I haven't seen it yet but I've heard it's good.

28 days wow thats a blast from the past. I remember watching that everyday 7 years ago, I had a chalk board in the living room and was trying to hit 28 days, never made it! Most i got was a couple of weeks. Great film though!

State of grace is a good film although not exactly all about drinking, but lots in it!
