Not too sure...

about this outpatient group I've been going to. I've been 3 times, and don't feel like I'm connecting with anyone or anyone is connecting with me for that matter. This group is a before IOP for some and an after IOP for others, and while IOP is in session, is IOP + everyone else. I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one not there for legal reasons. On Wednesday, the IOP starts, so I'm gonna decide what to do after that...

I have no experience with such groups...never attended.
Best of luck ...

Why not ask a guy to go for coffee after?
Tat might help both of you to connect
and
you can tell him about your new LifeRing meeting.

It's kinda like an AA meeting where every person there is court ordered plus you have CD counselor calling the shots.

Hey DK - Good for questioning and asking yourself it is working for you. Sounds like you are on the fence. Sometimes for me being on the fence is an OK place to hang out. Hope the decision comes to you Wed in a way that feels best.

Love your SR support and thanks for being here for all of us!

Well, I had to do a CD evaluation for my mental health disability. Of course I was found to be chemically dependent (I had already told them that, lol), but in recovery. I chose to try this group mostly because where I live there is a serious lack of f2f support, unless you want to drive 35-40 miles. My therapist assures me that my social worker at DSHS won't force me to keep going and that I can opt out any time. I hope she's right...

Well, it might be worth giving it a bit longer to see if you connect with anyone. F2F is good mmkay?

I would hope that CD would have nothing to do with your entitlements to disability otherwise that would be encouraging people to be using drugs to get benefit, which would make no sense at all.

I'm sure the actual IOP is more like being in school. I'm not sure what it will be like for the hour and a half that everyone is there... probably interesting, if nothing else.. I hope!

Well, my entitlement to disability is contingent upon my following through with all treatment recommendations. What I am on right now is supposed to be temporary, and they want you off as soon as possible. However, I'm actually gonna be switching over to long term disability and applying for SSDI, which gives me more money plus I am allowed to work part time without it taking away from my benefits.

Just got back from group... it was definitely interesting.. one guy was called out by several individuals for smelling like booze and a girl was called on claiming to be clean for a certain period when she had drank 2 days ago. And we saw an interesting video about neurotransmitters.

I started in an outpatient program as well. I only lasted one day. It was far away from home and for the time commitment it was not worth it for me.

I decided I would try AA and SR instead, and I knew that if I needed to go back to the program I always could.

I think for some people it is a great program and really helps them with recovery.

Had I lived closer and had a different schedule I would go , for sure

I'm doing it because there isn't much else to do out here... seriously.

I'd rather go to that than the local AA meeting and it's only one day a week.

Can't wait to raise up out of this town...

We're locked in 'till July, but check this out... my gf might be doing a CNA class at the local hospital... she also might be commuting back the other way to do it if she decides to stay after the training is over...
