Three frogs

My sponsor shared this with me the other day. I've never heard it before. He said it's a "classic" AA parable.

Three frogs are sitting on a log. One decides to jump off. How many are left?

If you're thinking there are two frogs left on the log you're wrong. There are still three frogs. One only made the decision to jump. A decision without action is nothing.

Cool

"...A decision without action is nothing..."

Actually a decision without action would be AA's 3rd Step, regardless of how folks may work that step--even the founders--they still left the step as written.....just 'made a decision...' --- jes sumpin' ta chew on fer a wal.... (o:

I have always disagreed with that non aa parable.
it is said a lot but not everyone agrees with it.No one knows excally where it came from.
it certainly wasn`t my 3rd step story
I`m not trying to start a argument with you just another drunk.......just my experience
we don`t all have the same experience apparently

Yeah, I'll agree it doesn't fit everything. Though there have definitely been times in my life where I knew something needed to be done yet failed to take action. To me, this paints a picture of how failure to take action in those instances gets me nowhere.

I am definitely not one who prescribes to the thought involved in this little AA parable. My Big Book tells me on page 64 that this decision(3rd step) means nothing unless followed immediately by action(4th step). But to each their own...

I made alot of decisions, none of them happened without action.

By being responsible for self, I want to and must take action on the decisions I make. The decision making process is most important, because action without thought usually ends in issues. Alcoholics love to not make decisions; it is much easier to stay ignorant than to expend the energy to learn and change in the Alcoholic mind. Now in a New Life, I can see the fallacy of the Alcoholic thinking and the allure it weaved to keep me sick.
