Final pre-rehab drink
On Wednesday I went into town for a pre-rehab assessment. Now there isn't much for me to do until I visit the centre on Tuesday, so i had 5 free days. As I was walking home I passed my usual booze store. A thought crossed my mind about maybe drinking for a final couple of days, luckily there was no craving and it wasn't a serious thought.
I knew if I did I would start drinking straight away (it was only lunch time), would end up wasted by 8pm wake up feeling crap start again and not be able to stop for days/weeks and miss out on my best opportunity to recover.
It is always good to remember how crap and out of control we felt when drinking.

In AA we call that "thinking the drink through"
and good for you ...
Staying busy is also a good idea.
Might be the time to start a project you have interest in.
You could try AA meetings too.
Or get your home all neat and shineing.
Just don't drink...that's the bottom line

The last time I went to rehab I was told to just 'maintenance' drink to keep the withdrawals from getting too bad. I ended up arriving there completely wasted. Mistake. Now if I just get thru my cravings without giving in I won't have to GO to rehab anymore! So I get thru my cravings one minute at a time cause I never want to be separated from my doggies again.

Luckily I'd already detoxed when went for rehab assessment, I'm a dangerous binge drinker.....go few weeks without then always relapse and have ended in A&E 4 times in last year for detox!
Yes Carol I'm keeping myself busy, got to make sure I have everything for 18 week stint away and leave my flat clean & tidy. I have to confess I am very lonely and bored at the moment, I really hope rehab helps.

Excellent that you 'played the tape all of the way to the end' so to speak.
Congrats.

I hear ya
I was on day 1, I walked past the bar at the train station on the way home from work, all my drinking buddies inside. My feet were glued to the ground for about 5 minutes, will I or won't I? I kept saying to myself, one drink will keep the demons away for tonight and tomorrow can be the first proper clean day. Luckily the voice of reason kicked in and told me that there's no way that I'll be able to keep to one drink, just walk away.
I'm so glad I did, now I know that the only thing that can help me quit is my own willpower.
