Depression

I have been battling depression and anxiety for awhile, so i have deceided to take a few months away from work and let my friend pretty much take the loads over but i need to hire another driver. Anyway i have set up a appointment with a phsyc and will be seeing him everyother day as of Jan 01.
I felt something was needed because anxiety levels are through the roof and i know me a drink was/is not far away if something doesnt change.
Anyone taking anything for depression or anxiety that has really helped please let me know what it is, i currently take 1/2 mg of kolonipin for anxiety and this just does not work anymore. I also have to be careful of what i take because i have been known to abuse pills also

Take care,
John

John, I would suggest making sure your doc knows you are an alcoholic and have had a pill issue in the past as well. One thing that we alkies are notorious for is holding back stuff from a shrink..... they can not help if we do not fully open up.

Definitely see a doctor.

Possibly he/she will prescribe anti-depressants.

Anti-depressants will not get you high, in fact they will have no immediate effect.

Anti-depressants must be taken continually over a long period of time in order to be effective.

Most people with depression begin to feel better within 2-4 weeks.

Unfortunately they usually feel so much better that they quit taking the meds and go back to having depression.

Hi John

I'm not sure about your physical health conditions, fitness etc, but i suffered from panic attacks/anxiety & depression way before i drank heavily & one thing that really helped was exercise!

Now i've always been into sports, whether it be watching or playing, but my anxiety would've killed me if it wasn't for my love of getting on a cycle & heading for the road or going a run! It sure burns off all the anxiety & releases endorphins in the brain that produce a high!! That beat any pill i ever took & believe me i took em all!

Now i'm not saying go out & get a bike or start training for a marathon, but if you can & i see you have time, go for some nice walks, put some effort into it, make your heart beat a little faster & the benefits will come both mental & physical. Swimming too, thats great!!, but outdoors is better. Go ahead, breath some good air!! Slow deep, in through the nose, out through the mouth!

All the best

wf

Thanks all, Taz this dr i will be seeing also deals with addictions i made it a point to make sure that the dr i see truly understands my situation, no secrets anymore , i have /am learning that honesty is the only way.
Waterface, my health is ok but not great, i do excercise as much as my lifestyle will allow, mostly brisk walks at shippers and receivers, then when i am home i will get outdoors more being i am sober. But i love sitting on my arse and playing guitar...

Take care,
John

Glad to know you will be getting professional assistance.

yes,if I give out medical advice I should be arrested for practicing medicine without a license.
besides I am a trucker,do not ask a trucker for medical advice,no telling what you will get back.

John,be honest with the Dr and follow the Dr`s orders

Merry Christmas
