I'm sick of it, and I'm ready to quit!
Welcome to SR and our alcoholism forum!
This is a good place to start. There are a lot of useful threads here. If you have any specific questions you can always start a new thread if you can't find one that relates to your question.
You can also take a look at this link which helps you with finding a recovery program that might work for you. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-programs.html
Good to see you and look forward to seeing your success.

Welcome to SR!
You start by not picking up that drink. If you're having trouble not picking up, tell yourself you won't pick up right now. Just for these next couple of minutes. Give the urge a chance to pass. Make it through today with those moments of not drinking right now. Don't worry about tomorrow until tomorrow comes.
I saw your post in the other forum. There is good news. You never have to do this again. This can be the last time.
Best wishes to you.

Hey Silencer,
You've already started. When I was 21 (I think you mentioned that on another thread) I had no clue about my alcoholism. What a great life lies ahead for you if you can stop now.
I wouldn't wish on anyone the misery that I went through. You've got the whole world at your feet - the keys to the kingdom - if you can stop now.
Give yourself and those who love you the best Christmas gift ever - stay sober. You will be amazed at how your life will change.
AA was the key for me. Its worth a shot.
Mike

Welcome to SR Silencer, the key for me to stop and stay stopped was the willingness to do anything to stay stopped. I had to become willing to go to AA and work the AA program to stay stopped. There are other programs besides AA, work which ever one works for you, just be willing to do what ever it takes.
As already said, the best place to start is right now, just do not pick up a drink and do what ever it takes to keep you from pickiing up a drink. Working the program of AA removed the urge/obsession to drink from me. I have not battled the beast in almost 2 years, I could honestly care less if I ever drank again.
