Thoughts on non-alcoholic beer?
They mostly taste like crap. There is one German made NAB that is pretty good (Claustheimer?) but for me, I have no desire to drink them. I mean, what's the point? Regular beer doesn't even taste all that great, so why drink a "beer" that I know tastes even worse. In the past, I put up with the taste of beer (an acquired taste I'm sure I convinced myself beer tasted good) to get the buzz, now what's the point? I'd prefer a cold soda, juice, or a glass of water.
I agree with this 100%. Also, I don't know if it would be a trigger for me or not... and I don't want to find out.
I have some mixed feelings about O'Douls... I have had one when out to dinner, but I don't think it's a denial thing for... I like the taste, want something not sweet, whatever... but I feel a bit weird about it right now, just for today (lol). So I am not drinking it.
But, more important, for my career, I will be getting random urine screens. While I doubt that the incredibly low alcohol would register, I am scared to death to register positive - especially with those new EtG screens. Unless I was POSITIVE that I would pass the tests, O'Douls is absolutely not worth it. Neither is mouthwash, alcohol based hand sanitizer, aqua velva, anything cooked with alcohol...
Thanx for posting this question.

Here's a few snippets:
Additionally, according to a report published by Indiana
University, a standard glass of orange juice contains between
.2% and .5% alcohol. Six glasses of orange juice could
theoretically create the same culpability in a minor as six
bottles of non-alcoholic beer.

Ultimately, the alcohol content of non-alcoholic beer
isn’t as signifi cant as the drink’s similarity to authentic
beer. If the alcohol content were truly noteworthy, there
would also be reports about the effects of “Orange Juice
Overindulgence,” as the two drinks have comparable
alcohol content. However, the placebo effect of
non-alcoholic beer has attracted researchers’ attention, as has
the ability of “near beer” to normalize the sensory aspects
of beer in preparation for future alcoholic indulgence. “In
the November issue of the Journal Alcoholism: Clinical
& Experimental Research, a team of California scientists
report that smell may be enough to trigger cravings and a
subsequent relapse among certain alcoholics.”

I am new to all this, but I agree....this seems like an all or nothing type of situation...
either quit or don't.

Personally I wouldn't want to touch non-alcoholic beer. I don't put anything with alcohol in my system, for fear of setting off that phenomenan of craving. For me it is also about the atmosphere that it would involve. I don't like being around alcohol, parties, bars and such. At all times I am just an arms length away from picking up that first fatal drink, and putting myself in that situation has truly within arms length. I also prefer the company of sober people, people like me. I don't want to go back to that hell, so I avoid it if possible. May sound extreme, just my 2 cents.

Yes...some foods contain naturally fermented alcohol...
none of them have a darn thing to do with why I quit drinking.
When the N/A beer and wines were first sold...it was a source
of conversations around the AA community.
I remember specifically 2 things ....
"What is your motive for delibertly chooseing to drink again"?
and
"Non alcoholic wine and beer are for non alcoholics to drink"
No...I don't use them...or drink OJ....or eat foods cooked
with alcohol....or buy cough syrup and mouthwash with alcohol.
..Why would I?

no way....OJ is natures NA beer??? nice.
as to the going to social gatherings....i just had an xmas party and stuck to virgin vodka specials....sprite & lime juice. had the look and the taste of an alcoholic beverage without the after effects. tossed in a few sprite & oj just to change things up a bit.

Same alcohol content as NA Beer. My family served wine with Turkey-Day dinner, but also served sparkling cider for the kids. That's what I had.
orange juice has a lot of sugar in it. There are natural yeasts in the air which unavoidably will begin to react with that sugar once the orange juice is opened (probably in there before it's opened)...this leads to natural fermentation which produces ethyl alcohol.
So yes , OJ (not freshly squeezed) has alcohol...if you open a bottle (or re-open a bottle of it) and it's 'fizzy' - it probably has a higher alcohol content that you think (CO2 produced as the yeasts break down sugar can cause carbonation [hence the name]).
This goes for any juice with natural sugars in it - OJ typically goes to work very quickly.

I won't go anywhere near non-alcoholic beer . . . I won't even use mouthwash that has alcohol in it . . . . here's an article you might find interesting.
