43 drank sence 19 pretty heavy.
Stopped recently Probably the 3rd time I really am trying to quit.
Now the problem. I get a tight throat everyday and the dry heaves. Should be past any DT,s and this has been going on for two years.
Had 2 upper GIs , gallbladder tests, bloodwork ect ect. Nothing found.
The only thing that works and it works well is Xanax. But I dont want to take that forever. If I am drinking it will also make that tight throat sick feeling go away.
What do you think? Anysupplements that help? Any meds to say reset my body?

Hi and welcome to SR!
You don't say how long it has been since your last drink. I know I had those same feelings you describe daily during the last 6 mos or a year of my drinking because I had developed such a physical dependence on alcohol. It was truly hell on earth.
Once I finally quit I went through what you describe for about 4 - 5 days. The first 2 - 3 were the worst and then 4 - 5 got a little better. In addition I had bad shakes to the point you could hear it even in my voice, I was so jumpy that if I brushed up against something even slightly I jumped like a startled cat, I had horrible stomach cramps and lower intestinal issues. My stomach was so sore from all the heaving I felt like someone had beaten me and there were other things too.
As for you, we are not doctors and can't suggest meds. Supplement wise load up on your B vitamins. Also, lots of fluids and especially things like gatorade. Try to find a copy of a hypoglycemic diet and follow that. A tablespoon of natural honey helps with the shakes as will any sugar. Try to rest as much as you can even if you can't sleep. A visit to the doctor to have bloodwork to assess any damage from longterm drinking would be ideal.
If it has been a while since your last drink you may be suffering from PAWS which is Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. If you do a search in this forum you can read up on it. Also, if you haven't already I recommend you read the stickies at the top of the forum about Quitting - What to Expect.
Hope this helps and we are glad to have you here!
Take care,
Kellye

Thats been done several times. Ive tried to quit before and it isnt like a withdrawl I dont think but as said above very jumpy. Anxiety?
I'd be finding myself an eye nose and throat specialist...
for another medical opinion.
I did and they did another scope up my nose and said they didnt think they would find anything and they didnt. No exaggeration at least 7 Doctors so far.
Here is something that happened in my life that seems like it was the begging of the end. Drinking really increased for the last few years.
1. Wife had Breast cancer and a mastectomy and reconstruction and couldnt work.
2. Airline I worked for went bankrupt and took large paycut on top of wife not working
3. Two young Daughters that I thought I would have to raise myself. Doctors at first said cancer spread.
4. Dad was an Alcholic
5 Changed jobs and moved sold house ect.
6 Changed jobs again with same power co. I have the best job Ive ever had.
I live 4 hrs from my family now but have 14 days off a month, while here i want to get healthy for my family and that is why I quit.
PS the reason I came on here, yes ive read the stickies, is the tight throat dry heaves get in the way of my job. Looking to see if someone else had the same problems, and what they did.

Check out Globus Hystericus on the internet, it is anxiety driven, lump, tightening..throat..etc...
Main Entry: glo·bus hys·ter·i·cus
Pronunciation: 'glO-b&s-his-'ter-i-k&s
Function: noun
: a choking sensation (as of a lump in the throat) commonly experienced in hysteria
a shot in the air...but there are write ups on it....and said xanax helps it...so..dunno..just a thought

I had them but only through the withdrawal process. Once I finally got through that then they stopped.
Not sure what to recommend other than a visit to your doctor but once again, welcome to SR!!!!
Take care,
Kellye
