oh so tired
oh so tired
Anybody have trouble sleeping when they quit drinking. I mean, in the last year I have had some issues with insomnia, but this is crazy now! Will this pass. I am so tired! Cannot sleep. I do have sleeping pills I take here and there but don't want to have to rely on them. Is is related to quitting drinking?

Sorry can't help, but I can sympathise, I am going through it too!
I wouldn't suggest sleeping pills personally, as I have used them in the past and they made me feel worse, but there may be new kinds around now that are better.
Those tips on Carols link look interesting, I might try some of those.

I had no problems with insomnia when I got sober, from what I have heard others share I am obviously the exception and not the rule! Read what Carol suggested, see your doctor, and from what I have heard from others this does pass with time.

Yep, I couldn't sleep at all my first week sober and it was a long time before I had normal sleeping patterns.
Please see a doctor and think about how your lifestyle could change to promote a healthy sleep pattern. I have to be careful about eating or exercise right before going to bed, and I had to cut my caffeine intake in the afternoon down to nothing.

I periodically have problems with mild depression and with sleep, both falling and staying there. I find that when I can get into a routine of moderate exercise these problems disappear. I especially like getting up a little early and getting it done first thing. That way I guarantee a productive day no matter what. Plus you get to enjoy that cocktail of endorphins and lactic acid all day.
It doesn't really matter what you do, just make it last a half hour. I do some crunches and push-ups and go jogging. Cheap, easy, and effective.

Yes I had alot of problems sleeping. I think my body was just so screwed up it didn't know what to do. I hadn't had a descent night sleep in my last year of drinking and I think it just took awhile to adjust. After about a month i started sleeping well and waking up very rested.
Take a look at the last few hours beforeyou go to bed. Maybe you can change some habits to encourage a better nights sleep.

I have some meditation tapes on my iPod and they help me relax so I get a little rest. I have chronic insomnia due to a sleep disorder. My doctors tell me the best thing is to get on a regular sleep schedule and stay with it. I have been considering changing jobs as my hours are so irregular it's impossible to stay on any kind of schedule!
Hope this helps.
