46 Days!

:bday8

When I started my recovery I never thought that I would make it past the one week mark but her I am on day 45, clean and sober. This is the first time that I have completely given myself to the program, immersing myself in meetings, literature, socialising with fellow AA members and regular contact with my sponsor. In fact he is coming over for dinner on wednesday. I am praying differently too: not the constant complaints and entreaties to God to spare me this (self imposed) suffering, but rather heartfelt thanks for my sobriety and wonder-filled life.

Everything has started falling into place. Work relationships, family, friends and general day to day living. There are exciting oppurtunities on the horizon but I am focusing on "being here now". Just for today I am grateful for AA, my sobriety and the inordinate beauty of a sober, sane life. :a194:

Awesome Tea, pretty neat knowing that you never have to drink again unless you choose to do so isn't it?

Wow, Tea4me, that's fantastic! I'm early in my sobriety, too. Isn't it wonderful when something clicks and "Keep coming back, it works if you work it" stops sounding like a stupid slogan and you realize it's actually true!

Hi Everyone
Thank you for all the support. I am busy studying for exams (one long procrastination ;) ) and I must be honest I started noticing the beer ads!! And I was reminded of the comfort and ease it would bring :chatter - I was tired at the time & getting flu.

Thank goodness I was able to remember that I have an allergy to alcohol and that my new life will disappear in a puff of beer breath if I were to pick up! Studying has started bringing out some of my character defects, and I have flu, but I am sticking close to the program - thanks for the support!!!! :ghug3

Hang in there Tea, go to a newcomers meeting and see the comfort and ease that booze really brings to an alcoholic! I go to a newcomers meeting once a week for 2 reasons, one to remember where I came from and the other main one is to offer a hand to those struggling.

Congratulations tea, its always nice to hear people quitting. I am on day 16 now and feeling a little deppressed and anxious and think that i will be so all of my life :( .
How do you feel?

Tea4me 10-12-2008 01:31 AM

Hi Hunter, I also felt really sad at the very beginning but I did what was suggested and went to lots of meetings and got a sponsor who's recovery I really admire. Slowly, the joy started to seep in and fill the cracks that alcohol had created in my soul. The miracle is that I have lost the desire to drink and I have made new friendships in AA. It really is worth it if you stick with it. Even if it is hard in the beginning, I find "fake it till you make it" really works for me:)
