Question from someone two months in the program
Hi yall, I am new to these boards. I have been in AA for two months and I love it. I like living a clean life.
But I have one questions.
Recently, over the last week or so, I have begun to see black spots, or shadow type things, but only for a second and then it disappears. I was wondering if this could be a chemical imbalance from someone in recovery? Or if anyone has ever experienced or heard of an alcoholic experiencing this? I heard that every recovering alcoholic should make a doctors appointment, but I haven't had the chance to go, so I thought I might ask yall.
Glad to be here.

Welcome RR!
I am a recovering alcoholic too, a little over four months.
I don't know what the spots could be but are you taking a vitamin each day? Are you eating properly? Drinking enough water?
Go see the doctor though. It really is best to get checked up, you could be anemic (lack of iron). But go find out. I did at about 2 months and it relieved a lot of needless worry for me to find out about my health.
Congratulation on the 2 months and the new life!

Well done on your recovery time
Welcome to our Alcoholism Forum.
When you have an eye exam...tell them
you are having "floaters" and "shadows"
Then they can evaluate and treat if necessary.
Do make an appointment to set your mind at ease.

How wonderful that you are loving life and recovery and AA!
Of course you need to get to a doc- no one here is going to be able to make a diagnosis - or at least one that is worthwhile - but to answer your question I don't know of anyone who has experienced what you describe and don't recognise as it as a common symptom of getting sober - suffice to say whatever it is the fact that you are sober means that any condition is going to be able to be managed better! I have had what you describe since before I got sober - I go for periodic check ups.
Good luck, welcome and well done!

Congrats on the 2 months and glad to hear you are finding in AA what I found.
In regards to what you are asking about, well I have not experienced the "shadows" but I have the floaters, both when drinking and after I quit, for me it was nothing according to my eye and regular doctors, why worry about it, just see the doctor, that way you are sure and not guessing.

I experience this from time to time...I think that it is less about the effects of coming off alcohol and more due to some kind of vitamin deficiency. I think it's fairly normal, but like other said it wouldn't hurt to go see a doctor to get a definite answer!
When I experience the "shadows", etc...it tends to last an hour or two and then go away once I eat or drink something...which is why it leads me to believe it's linked to nutrition.
