9/11, let us remember where we were.
Let us remember all... the day when 9/11 happened... what we were doing, and let us be happy we are alive... *just posting this in respect of what 9/11 is about*.
Regarding my location at 9/11... I was asleep at the time. Well, I was. o_O;. I awoken at like 9:20am or 9:30am, in my fully set red cotton suit I always wore when I went to bed, back when I had long hair, was like 15/16 years old... my stepfather saw me and said "Come with me" and we went to a tv and I saw this horrible image on the television of a building in smoke and he said to me...
"The United States of America have been attacked by terrorist forces." I know it sounds really friggin military/blunt way to put it, which is the only funny thing about it how he said it but it was so true. I don't remember much of the rest of the day though.
We'll never forget. Also I'm on day 88 no booze without AA.

I was in downtown Chicago speaking to a lawyer. People were very worried and there was a rumor that the Sears Tower was going to be hit next. That day was the first day that I cried in many, many years.

I was living with my parents at the time. My mother woke me up saying "a plane hit the World Trade Center." and we laughed because, at the time, it was still being reported as a small one.
I got up and went to school. I was getting my masters then. By the time I got to the university, the reality had started to come out. I heard it all on the radio. I distinctly remember the president saying "America has come under attack." and I couldn't believe it at all.
It was a weird day. A day I hope never happens again.

I was in the card (Hallmark) shop when the woman behind the counter started to cry after she answered the phone. 9/11 is my wedding anniversary, that one was my 2nd.
I ran across the street to Circuit City to watch what was going on TV (alot of them). It was so surreal, impossible I thought.
My husband and I have yet to celebrate our anniversary on the actual day since then. We celebrate on the 12th or the 13th now.

Well I work in Springfield Virginia and was at work when the Trade centers were struck, everyone was glued to thier radios.
I went out side to have a smoke and was talking to a few other guys about what was going on when we heard and then saw an airliner flying at almost tree top extremely fast, it was so low we could see the people in the plane. As it passed heading to the west it banked very hard to the north. We commented that we knew they were diverting air traffic from Reagan National airport, but that plane made no sense.
I went inside and within 3-4 minutes they announced there had been an explosion/bomb at the Pentagon which is only 4-5 air miles from where I work. I went out side to tell the folks out there and they said they had heard an explosion! Then a guy pulled in and said he was getting off of 395 north and saw a fireball to the north.
Well I could not get through to my family, we live 48 miles south of where I work so I left work early. It was an eeirie experience heading home everyone was traveling about 80 heading south on 95, every driver (including me) looked like a zombie driving, no one was changing lanes, no one was weaving in and out of traffic and no one was tail gating, we were all heading home to let our families know we were okay and to simply be with them.
I got home and my step daughter who was still in HS then ran out to hug me with tears in her eyes...... they pulled one of her classmates out of class...... her classmates dad was one of the first confirmed dead at the Pentagon.
A day I will never forget.
BTW Paulos congrats on your 88 days sober, so how have you been staying sober?

First of all, Paulos, congrats on your 88 days!!
I was working at one of the 2 ER's I worked at the day it happened. I remember, most, driving to the one job, through a small town, with literally hundreds and hundreds of American flags and yellow ribbons on everything. I cried every day I drove to work.
This is yet another reminder of all I have to be grateful for.
Hugs and prayers to everyone who was affected by 9/11...and weren't we all?

I had just come out of carpal tunnel surgery and was waiting for my mom to take me home. SHe was quite late picking me up and was crying when she got me. She told me what had happened and that she'd been trying to call my sister (who lives in NYC) but couldn't reach her.
I have no TV so went to a neighbor's house to watch. I was just in shock watching it on TV. It was like a bad nightmare and waking up to find out the nightmare was really happening.
My sister finally was able to reach us. SHe had watched the whole thing from her living room window. It did a lot of mental damage to her, just watching it, and she lost several friends who worked in the Trade Center.
After watching it at the neighbor's I went home and felt so 'lost' and alone. I had to do something so I cleaned my closet, with a vengeance, with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at top volume. For weeks I would get very nervous and afraid when planes flew over my house. My daughter, then 12, asked me if a plane was going to fly into our house. I could only say "I hope not!"

Still in college on that day...
I went to one of the libraries to study for about four hours in the morning before going to take my first test of that semester. When I got near the classroom, I noticed a flyer on one of the adjacent doors. It mentioned that a particular class was cancelled due to terrorist attacks. I didn't really think anything of it, so I sat down in the hallway and studied some more. I saw a girl sitting on the other side of the hallway-- she was looking at the same book I was studying from. We talked and joked around about the test. I mentioned the flyer on the door as an afterthought. She said, "Oh yeah, the World Trade Towers are gone." I said, "Huh?". She said, "Yeah, and the Pentagon was hit." I sat in silence. I didn't know what to think. I looked at my book. Five minutes later the professor came out of her classroom, saw us and said, "In light of what happened today (I was then stunned because that confirmed it) you don't have to take the test if you don't want to. These are scary times. I don't know what's going to happen (she was distressed)." I ditched the rest of my classes and went home. I spent the entire day watching TV.

I was in high school at the time...second period I believe! (In Lancaster, PA)The first plane had struck between classes, so by the time I got to class the teacher had the t.v. on. I remember actually seeing the second plane hit live. I remember the room, the desk I sat in, the entire atmosphere. It's crazy how things like this stick with you forever...
Thank you Paulos for starting this thread.
Congratulations on your sobertime.
I was getting ready for work, listening to the news when the first plane hit. My son had happend to see the 2nd plane hit the building while he was looking up at the t.v. He said "mommy a plane just crashed into that building".
Let us remember....

I was in the lobby of a hotel in Bangkok when someone yelled about the first plane hittiing, after that we were watching the news and saw live when the second hit one. I was suppost to fly home the next day, changed my flight and stayed for an extra two weeks.
Do you guys remember what a clear and beuatiful day it was that day? I went into work and stopped at the coffee stand and overhead someone saying a plane hit the World Trade Center. At that point, they thought it was a small one.
Got to my floor where we had tvs and watched the whole thing. I stayed at work all day. My sister was flying in Penn that day, I didn't know on which plane or where. I called her office, they hadn't heard from her, didn't know. I spent all day wondering if she was alive. Finally she called me and the first thing she said was" don't start crying". She was ok, but her plane was landed somewhere (as all of them were).
My exH was ready to pack us all up and move to the hills of Vermont in case of a full fledge attack. Scary.
Prayers out to all who lost loved ones that day..

I was just getting ready for work, early here in California, and the Today Show was showing the 1ST plane. I watched, assuming it was some sort of ad for an upcoming movie.
Two hours later my oldest son called to tell me a helicopter was being sent to land at a school near his house to pick him up and fly him to an undisclosed location. He was a Marine chemical and biological warfare specialist at that time and was being moved to a location to meet and plan with FBI and state officials in case Los Angeles was a target. Chills ran through me when he pleaded with me to call my daughter who was a student at USC in downtown LA and ask her to come home and get out of LA.
I remember thinking that it was possible that things could get much worse. That was the day that I fear all Americans lost our innocence regarding our safety from the "rest of the world."
Life is short and we should always remember to live each and every day to their utmost.

I was in the Arabian Gulf stationed on a supply ship that was bases out of N.J. Every morning before we deployed we could look across N.Y. harbor and see the towers. Any way, we just left the Gulf through the Straights of Hormuz heading home when we turned on the news at the endof our work day, Gulf is seven hours ahead. We couldn't believe what we were watching. Within an hour all seven ships turned and headed back on statio in the gulf. We stayed with the carrier, USS Enterprise and sent them bombs to get the planes ready for the upcoming missions.
Frustration set in when we sat around for three weeks before launching counter attacks. Several ships from Japan joined us including another carrier that instead of planes carried spec. ops. helos and spec. war troops. In early October we launched our counter attack and we left station two weeks later.
We arrived back to N.J. 10 Non 2001 after nine months deployed. It didn't feel the same any more. I live in a small seaside town, Belmar, N.J. that lost several locals in the attacks. It quickly became a sad place to live.
While I don't agree with our current military situation we all need to remember those that perished seven years ago today. Bless them all!!!
