How much a day were you drinking.........

at your worst and what type of alcohol?

I was at about about 16 to 25 ounces of vodka per day. More on the weekends to come up with that average.

I was doing the functional thing. Drinking after my 9 to 5 and ramping up on the weekends.

Welcome to SR!

I have found that alcoholism is not so much about how much a person drinks or what type of alcohol they drink but what the alcohol does to them when they drink it. For example:
normal drinkers don't have black outs/brown outs/blank spots/etc..
" " don't wonder if they might be alcoholic
" " don't start planning their next drink while still at work or at play.
" " don't lose the ability to stick to just one or two drinks once they start drinking.
This list could go on and on but those are just a few of the things I can think of right now.

Personally, at the end of my drinking I was drinking two 30-packs of beer and a pint of 100 proof Hot Damn when I drank which was any time I was not at work. I could drink most any man or woman under the table. But I know of people who are alcoholics who would get drunk on a couple of glasses of wine.

I found the amount of alcohol ones drinks can determine if you are a alcoholic or not. If you can drink a 30-pack of beer in a day< I'm sorry but you are a alcoholic.

MyPaperAnchor 09-04-2008 04:09 PM

About a fifth a day, give or take, was the average.

And I was a weirdo...I used to do whisky one day, then vodka the next.

My stomach is turning just typing this...

What I drank, how much I drank, and when I drank was of little use in my recovery from alcoholism.

What I became when I was drinking, and what I was like in between drinking bouts (restless, irritable, and discontented) were my concerns :)

CarolD 09-04-2008 04:33 PM

Hard to estimate because I usually drank in bars/clubs/lounges
I did blackout drinking too so ???

I too mixed up my type of alcohol ...only disliked beers and rums.

Good to see a new member...

As my post stated, yes, I am an alcoholic.

I do know of alcoholics who did not drink anywhere near what I drank but are no less an alcoholic than I am. It isn't about amount it is what the alcohol does to the person. Amounts vary but reactions are similiar in alcoholics

Homer38 09-04-2008 05:09 PM

On a good day i could drink 20-30 beers but my norm was about 15 pints of beer and weed, usually in less than 3 hours.

Good points.

My health is what became an issue. No blackouts DUI's ect. I had one bout of pancreatitis that put me in the hospital over night. I have a high tolerance to pain and that **** was unbearable pain - 5 shots of morphine didn't completely ease it. I'm 43 and didn't expect that at my age. It sucked.

I drank a fifth a day and was told it was way to much for a 100lb woman I was poisioning myself to the point I could've died

glad to be sober

zendust 09-05-2008 04:33 AM

I drank when I was awake, around the clock, any time of day. And I never slept, just passed out.

Coolmummy 09-05-2008 04:51 AM

2 bottles of white wine every evening. Which was 'fine' because 'the middle classes drink white wine'

Yeah right!!!

Freedom said it all!!!

In the end my tolerance was totally whacked up, one day 6-8 beers would have me slurring my speech and stumbling, the next day I could drink one beer after another all day long and not even cop a buzz..... how much did I drink at my worst? Well over a case and still funtioning before my tolerance went haywire.

Please keep in mind that an alcoholic is an alcoholic, it does not matter how much or how little one drank, or for how long, or often, if someone is an alcoholic, they are an alcoholic.

It breaks my heart when an alcoholic convinces them selfs they are not an alcoholic because they do not drink as much as so and so, or they have not drank as long as them, or they have not been to jail... etc.

If one says they are an alcoholic, they are.

Hmm...
From my files...:)

What is moderation?

According to the Center for Disease Control

Moderate drinking is no more than
2 drinks a day for men..1 for women

They consider a drink to be
12 oz. of beer..5 oz. of wine...1 1/2 oz liquor.

Your body and mind processes all 3 toxins equally
so drinking only wine or only liquor or only beer
or mixing them is of no importance.
They all do the same damage.
Obviously your drinking is hrming your health.

It sucked.
Quitting drinking is difficult ...but sobriety is possible
Keep posting...we do undersand..:yup:

How much a day were you drinking.........
Too much.......

VeritasAequitas 09-05-2008 07:07 AM

At my worst I didn't care about myself or others, so caring about how much I drank wasn't even a thought in my mind.

It's GOOD to be sober!!!

Zencat 09-05-2008 07:45 AM

I drank enough to numb my experience of being alive.

me too :(

Toomutch 09-05-2008 07:49 AM

Each day I drank too much...

Celebration1994 09-05-2008 10:03 AM

How Much ?

All I know is the first drink got me drunk...If I look at my drinking in terms of how much, that means nothing to me, it's what it did to me mentally, spiritually, and physically....so whether it be 1 drink or a 1000 does not matter. When I look at the first step...I believe that I am totally powerless over alcohol if I drink (I just can not stop), and my life is nothing but unmanageable with misery. So to me it isn't how much I drank...it's that I always had problems when I drank.
Blessings
Terry
