Fugfuggy detox thread...

today is the day.

I am scared, anxious, and exited. I am also hesitant. I feel like I am about to break up with long time relationship and life without it is a mystery.

I will be posting through the process so please wish me luck and offer up support as I progress through it all.

Just dig deep and hold on tight my friend. The wind will pick up and blow something fierce but never let go, be strong knowing that a better life awaits you on the other side.

You can do this and know that every day it will get easier. You are on the path to freedom!
Best of luck!

Hi Fug,

Your post reminded me of one of my very favorite books "Drinking: A Love Story" by Caroline Knapp.

I am sending lots of prayers your way.

If you're able, talk to a doctor first. Detoxing isn't something to be taken lightly. At the minimum, make sure you've got someone there with you.

Best wishes in your recovery.

I am checking into a medical detox facility so hoping that the meds will make it bearable. The only question for me now is whether to check in drunk or sober.

It does not have to be so absolute as drunk or sober.
Drunk you should not drive and probably won't go anyway.
Sober you may be too ill to do a darn thing.

Call and ask the facility for instructions.
Are they sending a car for you?

I am having a friend take me in, take away my car, and be locked away for 7 days. I want to go in wet just to ease the nerves and severe anxiety that I am feeling at the moment. Also, I feel like I need to say goodbye to an old friend.

I know this sounds crazy but I actually "broke up" with my DOC!!

I said to it "You and I are through, you are no good for me, you treat me like $hit, etc...."

For me it was the first step in letting go of the feeling of "What will I do without you?"

I took a valium and drank a four pack of wine in the car on the way. My girlfriend and her police officer boyfriend drove me. I felt safe and I think the valium helped me out for the first couple of days. I'M NOT SAYING ANYTHING, JUST SHARING!!!!!! Obviously you wouldn't have been the first person to show up at the detox unit intoxicated.

We come in all sizes, shapes, race, status, and age. We are all trying to achieve the same thing, a clean, happy sober life.

You can get sober! Just take it one day at a time and remind yourself of all the negatives about drinking that you won't have to worry about anymore.
