Jim, sorry to have offended. This is not the 12 step forum, so suffice it to say you will not get the crowd of nodding heads when you toss around words like "spiritual malady" and "dry drunk".
LMM I can identify and understand the depths of despair which you describe, yet I still don't subscribe to having a spiritual malady. I appreciate your comments!

You gotta wonder how some of these terms ever came to be, kind of just seems like a catchy little phrase someone made up along the way. The term dry drunk is an oxymoron and calling alcoholism a spiritual malady is equally absurd. Most alcoholics suffer from a lot of psychological problems whether they be anxiety, depression or whatever and simply quitting alcohol will never solve all the issues. People who never touched alcohol suffer from the same mental health issues so does that make them "dry drunks"? The only thing these catchy little phrases accomplish is to try to attribute all of lifes problems to alcoholism which clearly does more harm then good.

I would have to agree, I find much of the programs "speak" unhealthy and unfounded. The primary tenant that one is "powerless" is the biggest culprit when it comes to harming people. Thankfully many are becoming aware of the inconsistencies in the program, leaving and sharing the fact that sobriety is indeed possible without aa, without "dry drunks", and most certainly with out "spiritual maladies".
I agree, there are many non-alcoholics who could work on bettering themselves. You don't have to be an alcoholic to manifest negative characteristics. No one is suggesting that. Imagine what a wonderful world we would be living in if we were dealing with healthy, well balanced individuals. We can only dream...
I drank due to being unhappy and due to circumstances in life, of course. Don't we all? Once I quit drinking, I addressed my issues. That is the point of the program. It may not work for everyone, but it sure worked for me. For that, I am grateful.
I changed my mind and it changed my life. Through that, I realized, my mind can open doors or it can set limitations. If we change our perspective, we can see a different point of view. I try to keep an open mind. I never used to before, but life changes has lead me to where I am today. Once I stood firm on my views and opinions, then they changed due to circumstances. I suspect, they may change again. There is no right or wrong here. Mainly, it is a matter of choices, experiences and perspectives.
There is no doubt that I was powerless over alcohol. I am powerless once I take that first drink. If I don't, I can maintain. It is the first drink that sets off the obsession/compulsion. Today, alcohol doesn't control my life. The mind is a powerful thing. I can make good choices today now that I am thinking clearly and I'm fairly grounded. I was so dysfunctional, I never thought it possible. I'm grateful for a solution and for a change of mind. Thanks for the discussion.

One of the most important aspects of my addiction disorder recovery is healthy thinking. CBT helps me examine my thinking. Black and white thinking has caused plenty of problems in the past. I used to believe there was only one way to work a recovery program. Like I had to do recovery like everybody else. That only limited me to all the other possible ways people recover from true alcoholism. I no longer narrow and limit my thinking like that. And what a relief it has been to be open to all the possibility's of healthy recovery.

Doesn't everyone do that?

I.e. I'm in the under 10 items supermarket line and there is someone in front of me with 12 items so I want to smash their face in.

At the very least we could have an annoucers voice that says "Drum roll please..."
Or maybe one of the wrestlemania annoucers i.e.
"...and in the blue corner we have LIZW!
Weighing in with her shopping cart, filled with 10 items, at...."
