Dreaming About Drinking -Anyone else?

As a binger, I'm on day 27 sober. Started having dreams the last few days of drinking. Anyone else ever get those? Makes you wake up relieved to know you didn't drink!

Oh yes, I am going on 22 months sober, I had one a month or so ago, a really weird one!! The good news, at least for me, the longer I stay sober the further apart they get.

I absolutely have! I'm on Day 13 and a binger and this week I woke up in a panic thinking that I really had gotten drunk! So relieved it was just a dream and I didn't lose my days! lol

I know the feeling. I was having some pretty intense dreams last night myself. I have woke up before all sweaty and pissed because I thought I blew my clean date.

Yes!

Last night and the night before! really long dreams too, all sorts happening.
A recurring one for me is going into a shop and them not having what I want or being completely sold out, I even went to a shop in Scotland called 'Vodka Jacks' and he couldn't sell me any for some reason....I have very intense dreams sometimes, lol.

Definitely! Fewer between but yes! It makes sense that we would dream of our old best friend. My wife says that dreams are the washing machine of the mind. So as long as I am washing, I have no worries!

If you use the SR Search funtion
you will find many threads about dreams.

I kinda miss my favorite reocurring drinking dream
Dim lights...Smokey NYC Jazz Club .......Famous entertainers
on a revolving bandstand ...Surrounded by lovers and friends
I'm enjoying a VT and looking super.

That my friends is called...Romancing The Drink..
By the time I quit...in reality
all my fun bottles were empty.

Super all. Appreciate knowing I'm not crazy. Either that or we're all nuts together. Either way, I'm in good company :P

Thumbs up

I've had them, too. I was told that this is a GOOD sign, because your subconscious mind(or something) is aware that you do NOT want to drink again, and you wake up and are relieved you didn't drink, so it shows where your mind/thoughts are at, and these dreams are a sign of progress and such in your recovery.

I don't know if I explained that very well, but this has been my experience, anyway!

Thank you for posting this. I have such a problem with dreaming. I wake up every morning wracked with guilt thinking that I ruined my streak. The guilt/disappointment is soooooo real to me. Sometimes it's noon before I realize that I'm in a bad mood over something that didn't even happen.

I will say this though, as I approach six months, I do think they're going away! My mom told me she read that if you don't want to dream about something, you should deliberately think that to yourself before you fall asleep. I just say "I don't want to dream about being drunk" and few times in my head, and it seems to help.

Oh goodness yes! I had a wild one the other night and was so mad that I was drinking, woke up almost expecting a hangover.

Hey everybody. I still get the old drink dreams after 18 months and my sponsor who has been sober 6 years still gets them too!

I used to feel guilty and saddened by them until I realised that I have no control over my dreams but can chose not to take that first drink and follow my program when I'm awake.

Hope this helps!

Interestingly, Ive never had a dream about drinking, but I occasionally have the fantasy of finding a fat sack of chronic under a pillow....only to wake up and realize it's not true.

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My deams take me to actually getting drunk or high, feeling the effects, coming back to reality, feeling ashamed and scared, having to make that phonecall to my sponsor, being totally overwelmed with anger. And then I wake up.....................................

"Thank God, that was a dream!!!!"

My program, Today, is working in my life.

I actually play the tape all the way through.

Our minds are very powerful................One way our addiction works through is our sub-conscience mind. dreams live through that part of the brain.

Strange as it sounds to me, that is the way it works. I have to remember that part and looks at what reality and fiction splits.
