I have been sober for the past six days and counting. I do think of drinking again, but than I remember that I need to start looking for work again. I can' be drunk when I look for a job. I have my first appointment with my counslor today at 1pm.

Good job!!!! Six days is a wonderful accomplishment...and how fabulous that you never have to do these six days again, eh?! You will be able to find a job with a much clearer head and sense of purpose and pride now that you have these days under your belt! You can handle anything...you've already handled six days!

Hector congrats on your six days. Everyday sober for an alcoholic is a victory sent from God. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on 6 days, the physical portion is over with, the mental portion of the battle for some (Like me) can actually be far harder. I found it to be far easier to stop drinking then to stay stopped. I found that the best way for me to not obsess over alcohol was to work on changing me. Keep on keeping on, be willing to do what ever it takes to stay sober. The second a drink starts to seem like a good idea is the time to take another action to not drink that you have been unwilling to take before. One can stay stopped as long as they remain willing and honest.

Great Job....Keep coming back to this site. I think I spent about 3-4 hours a day logged onto SR during the first couple weeks.

Thumbs up

Good work soldier! I am in the middle of day 6 myself, but the sun is still up. The night time is the hardest time for me, as that's when the anxiety peaks. But my head is getting clearer by the day, and I've just started a new 90-day regimen to "get fit", and this program says "no alcohol", so hopefully it'll help me keep my eye on the prize.

I can't remember the last time I went this long without a drink, but I do have memory of times when I "took a break", and at some point I would start to feel taller and energized. My lungs would open up and breathing becomes deeper, which I thought was strange, because I don't smoke cigarettes...but then I did spend almost 20 years behind bars, before smoking was banned everywhere, so I guess I inhaled plenty.

Anyway, see ya on Day 7!

Keep it up hector - we are all in this together. I am on day 9 and the cravings are weakening and can feel myself normalising.

Way to go Hector!!

I'm at the end of day eight and the physical cravings are easier to handle - it's the mental obsession that needs work, as Taz said.

Keep coming back - one day at a time!

Day 2 and start a new job tomorrow. Part of how I've gotten through these 2 days is that I'm out of money after being unemployed for seven weeks. I looked at last years calendar that I used for a diary and it's been over 13 months since a day has gone by without wine or pills. Then I lasted 2 1/2 weeks. Previous to that it was at least 10 years of daily using. Am looking forward to having an income, but not the struggle to stay clean. Before I opened a checking account, I used to cash my check, wrap it up and mail it to myself-usually took 3 or 4 days but then I just spent it on wine and Rxs anyway so gave up.
