Starting again
Starting again
Well I fell again a few weeks ago and decided to start sobriety again and am now on day 2 and what a day. I had to fly to the states today from the UK and it was business class. So the air hostesses were wheeling their trolleys around every five minutes offering the best of wines. Well I knew I had a car rental booked at the other end so could not partake, which was rather torturous. Then I arrived at security and was almost turned back because I'm here on business for a couple of weeks and didn't have all their paper work. So after the interrogation I got through and got into the car and keyed the hotel destination in the sat nav. Well I must have taken at least a dozen wrong turns cause driving on the opposite side of the road is rather confusing. Finally get to the hotel and really felt in need of a drink - but decided not to, the craving wasn't strong enough. I think that is because it is 11.30 pm back home, a time when I have normally stopped drinking - it's only 6.30 here. Maybe the time zone differences are going to make it easier over the next few days - I'll be working when I am normally drinking. Anyway just thought I would share my day - thanks for listening.

Good for you 12/15! Some of my biggest triggers are being harried and tired. Historically, I have reached for a drink to take myself down a notch, so I think that it's great that you made it through flight attendants, the time difference, negotiating your way to your hotel and the differences in driving! That would be an ultimate litmus test for me!
Oddly enough, I'm currently in a british territory, so the driving is opposite for ME right now , but I'm taking it slowly...

You did very well. If i was 2 days sober after a binge there's no way i could have drove in this country let alone on the opposite side of the road.
By the way guys, I'm coming over to Orlando next month so if anybody is from there and knows where the meetings are, I'd be very grateful to chat

When traveling I love to go to out of town meetings, I always have people who understand me there and I usually find domething to do that tourists never find.
Congrats on the 2 days, keep it up one day at a time.

Thanks for all your comments. I normally get the cravings straight after work but today there really was no craving. I am sure this is something to do with being in a different timezone. The weather here is really nice and I'm taking things one day at a time. I am going to look up meetings - have hired a car so there should be no probs getting to one.
Day 4 now and after finishing work instead of running to the pub for a glass of wine I went for a run around the park. Had the sweats last night but no strange sensations during work which is good. Perhaps it is better to go sober while on holidays, but things are going well. Cutting back on the cigarettes as well - can't smoke at work nor in the hotel room so not many opportunities to smoke anyway. But cigs are so cheap in this country - five dollars for a pack when in the UK I would be paying six pounds. When I get back to the UK I have three weeks holiday booked so looking forward to some real chill time. Peace to everyone.
Have done a search and found one nearby tomorrow, so will go along with an open mind. It's now day 5 and already my body feels like it is getting better. There is no anxiety and I slept very well last night. Am a little concerned that spending a session listening to people talk about alcohol will actually give me a strong craving. Has anyone found themselves craving after an AA meeting?

People don't only talk about alcohol in meetings, they actually share on how they got and stayed sober or how they are learning to live sober and free. There is a lot of strength and hope in these meetings... I look forward to seeing how it goes for you. Definitely keep us posted!
I have never found myself craving after a meeting. I usually feel more focused and calm. My sponsor always says "you will hear something that you need to hear." and it's true. By the way, I have been on several business trips since my sobriety date so I kind of know what you are going through. Good rest, nutrition, and keep busy!
Take good care of yourself.

7 days now without a drink and my body must be completely free of alcohol. Am going into the mountains tomorrow. I will hike a trail through valleys, rocks and trees when normally I would be stuck in a bar emptying my wallet and degrading my dignity. Peace to all.
Good for you December!
I actually spent the second week of my sobriety on a vacation with my husband and it worked amazingly well. I found that getting away from the usual routines made it easier for me and I was distracted by things we were doing on vacation.
I'm glad this is working so well for you.

Well it was a three hour journey to the mountain followed by an extremely strenuous hike. Strange thing was, as the sweat was dripping by the bucket load from my body, I had a massive craving for a glass of wine. Luckily there were no pubs around, just rocks and trees and steep vertical drops - the views were stunning. Well, it's day 8 now and I'm off for a well deserved meal. There's a smaller mountain nearby that I might attempt tomorrow if my legs can still stand in the morning. I am enjoying it here in the US, but something puzzles me - I can't find a book store anywhere. There are loads of restaurants and take-aways and walmarts and used car dealers - but no book store. I'll have to do a google. Peace to everyone.
