Unhappy Silly question, Im kinda anxietic.

I was just wondering if I physically go to a closed discussion, womans only, step meeting, my first in many years, am I going to have to read the steps with everyone, or can I just listen?? I don't want to say anything, even reading, til I get comfortable, but I don't want to be rude either.

I don't know the rules of this group, but I know the rules of the groups I go to. And they are that you don't have to say anything unless you want to. In the meetings I go to, this isn't considered rude either

I hope that helps. BTW Nors........ you're doing great!

You are under no obligation to say anything in a Twelve Step meeting if you do not want to.

Any group that espouses the concepts of The Twelve Steps and The Twelve Traditions should allow it's member the freedom to work their programme in their own time and in their own way.

as you are returning to AA...good for you!...

I suggest you do the opposite of your past actions.

Trying a new slant might work. :shades:

Thank you! I will just go anyway, I did make a commitment to my therapist that I would go before my next meeting with him, and here it is at the last minute, hopefully I won't be expected to read off the 12 steps right away, but I won't let it stop me from going . Scary

Nors, The 12 step I go to takes turns reading a step and then discusses it. In many cases I have heard someone say pass when it got to them. Nobody thought anything of it. This is a decision that each person makes. However, I must tell you that in many cases I hope that the reading is finished before it gets to me. Then when it is my turn and I read I feel happy that I did it. In many cases what I am reading I can compare with so I feel like I am reading to myself. I know much of the things I read are true in my mind. Verbalizing them makes me feel more confident in my ability to deal with it. I guess it is like in my mind things can feel so much larger. When I read them out loud
and I see people nodding with understanding it helps. I have had my best meetings when I don't project what I will do and not do. Try to participate the best you can. Like the others said you don't have to but, I think you'll find it helps. Don W

In my area it is perfectly acceptable to pass on reading.People may choose to do so for any number of reasons. Some folks just aren't comfortable reading aloud in front of a group. No biggie
