I took a med for this problem for ...um ...3 or 4 years.

By 2 months AA sober I was back in balance
mentally and physically...without any meds.

I do hope you see your doctor
be both safe and sober...

Welcome to SR and the legendary Bowel Group! I have dealt with diverticulitis for several years; all due to my previous drinking and lifestyle habits. This is just another fact of Alcoholicism. The health prices I have begun to pay are were not readily apparent while I drank for all of those years. I am grateful to be alive. Sure my gut bothers me sometimes, but I can mange it. I look forward to your new life hear Claude.

That describes me exactly. IIRC it took about a week for the diarrhea to go away (and I always told myself it wasn't alcohol related. :P) I started eating a better diet more or less concurrently with giving up alcohol, which probably had an effect too.

Check with your Dr., but you can't go wrong with a balanced diet, lots of water, plenty of fiber, lean meats, whole-grain starches, veggies, etc. Too much dairy might cause you difficulties...but, again, "RUN" it by your Dr. (sorry, couldn't resist).

Well CP I can only share, that it took me 24 years of drinking and 22 of that alcoholically and in those years I did SEVERE damage to my whole gastric system, so much so that today with almost 27 years sober I am required to take all the B vitamins by shot as my small intestine no longer absorbs the vitamins. I have Barrett's Esophagus, which is scarring of the esophagus and is considered a pre-cancerous condition all caused by the chronic GERD, caused by major destruction of my system by the alcohol.

Will the diarrhea go away? Have no idea, I still have problems today. GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Love and hugs,

I had the opposite problem. I guess I always felt like crap because I was full of it.

Man went to the doctor.
Said, "Doc, it hurts when I do this..."
and the man showed the doctor.
Doc said, "well, Don't DO that."

pay at the window.

H Claude
I'm glad you are here with us in this forum. You sound alot like me. I had the same problem with the chronic "15 min trots". Mine cleared up when I stopped drinking.

I agree that you should be honest with a doctor. Alcoholism is a disease. People with cancer shouldn't be ashamed...why should we be ashamed of suffering from this illness?

There is a way out. It sounds like things arn't going too well for you with this lifestyle. I hope you can find the way out.

I hate to say this but I hope everything comes out alright for you in the end. See what I mean about the immaturity here.
Dan that cracked me up along with a few other puns and inuendos!

We alcoholics seem to find humor even when discussing a serious topic.

Things like this are important for all of us to understand and to let others know they are not alone, they are not dying, it is not to late to stop, it will get better once you quit.
