3 days sober
Hi everyone. My first post was Monday about my alcohol problem with wine.
I am now over 3 + days sober. I have had some moments of weakness...I took an elderly relative out for dinner and she insisted we have wine with dinner...I hesitated and then said no...I had to drive. Every day at 5 pm I get the craving. Yesterday evening my boyfriend came over; he has a gin and soda or two daily but switches to plain soda after that. He is a well adjusted, healthy man; and I believe without a substance abuse problem. But because I usually have a drink with him, I did crave it....but the thought of the pain afterwards deterred me from that drink.
I am still having other issues...procrastination being one of them....I know this is going to take time. I am looking forward to getting my life back. I do not like the person I have become.
I know the 12 step program well from years ago. I have yet to go to an AA meeting; just getting support here. I am somewhat resistant to going...but know I cannot do this by myself.
I will post again...

Welcome welcome welcome! Does your boyfriend know that you have a problem with alcohol? If not, it might help and you may find that he could be a great support system. Yes, work the meetings! They work if you work them! Hahaha....anyways congratulations on three days. I know it took a lot to say no to wine at dinner. It's prevalent everywhere but keep writing here and researching!

Liz congrats on 3 days, I assume you know that AA meetings help, but the solution for me was the whole program, for me meetings alone did not cut it, for some it does, I went to meetings, got a sponsor, worked the steps and did service work.
Welcome to the site. THis is a safe and supportive place to come to vent, get advice and encouragement, and make friends. THere's strength in numbers! Together we can do this!:ghug
Hi Lizzie, and welcome.
3 days is a great accomplishment...you are doing better than many of us ever do. It sounds like you're making good choices. You are not alone. I urge you to keep seeking support from others, even if it's only on this website. I'm not one to preach about AA, but it did help me out alot. The main thing I got out of AA in the beginning was a sense of belonging and comradare with *real* people. I could think of all their faces when I was tempted to drink... this helped me stay sober.
I hope you can continue to find ways that you can stay sober as well. Keep up the good work!
