Welcome to SR, Faukner!
I'm glad you found us. Different people stop at different points of this progressive disease. Some don't stop until it kills them. Alcohol is a tyrant. I hope you find freedom from it, as many of us have.

Welcome to SR, Lizzie.
Congrats on day one of sobriety. Keep working at it, and keep trying.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I posted again in a separate thread.

Faulkner, I drink mostly alone in my home office after hours or with my boyfriend (he does not have a drinking problem). I believe my older children who live with me suspect I was drinking too much. I have not shared with anyone accept you folks that I have stopped or that I suspect a problem with alcohol. Three days now...

Faulkner, have you gone to AA meetings at all?

Like you, most people would be shocked that I have a drinking problem. But it is clear to me.

I know I need to look at the issues underlying the alcohol...I am going to need some help. I have the propensity to try to do things alone...

Sorry if I've hijacked your thread Faulkner...

Welcome Faulkner, i am a youngen like you (im 20)- i learned by example of my elders too, i've drank since 14- knew by 17 that i could have a prob but my drinking got pretty bad before i finally threw the towel in. There are a lot of things we will not have to go through- (or put loved ones through) quitting now. If i lift another drink- all those YETS will materialise tho i know that much. I am glad you have decided on a new way to live- i have been sober a few months...and am learning and changing so much already. Keep us posted on how u doing
