Smile today makes 7 days without a drink

i haven't gone 7 days in about 2 yrs!i've been polluting my body almost everyday all that time.I made a discovery about daily drinking, when you drink everyday and it's completely in your system all the time, you're going to want to drink. But when you get over the hump and dry out,get the posion out of your system,it's power diminishes.you need to get it out of your system
for any strength over this thing to develop.i didn't even make a conscious decision to stop like i have before,i just took it one day at a time after going on a major drunk for a couple of days straight.i just didn't drink and my resolve got stonger and i've made it 7 days and am not even tempted to drink.someone said something in a meeting about it being an allergy and that it becomes "active"when you take a drink.otherwise it lays dormant...waiting for you to wake it up...all it takes is one drink to
wake up the dragon.i feel better than i have in a long time and i hope to continue..one day at a time

Hey blue, congratulations on your seven days.

I am glad you are developing some positive ideas that work for you.

Personally I find that Working the steps and developing a relationship with The Higher Power of my own understanding is my best guarantee against a relapse.

Keep on going to meetings. You are doing so well.

Kindablue,

Congratulations on 1 week! Hey that would include a week-end too!
Just don't pick up the first 1.

Awesome job! Don't give up.

You attend AA? I found this twelve step program to work some wonders for me. Going to meetings, contacting my sponsor and working the steps help me from relapsing. Grab your one week chip!

P.S. We got another movie star promoting AA and thinking of being in a movie about it, go figure. (Tobey Maguire) I didn't know spidey was an alcoholic

Hey Blue!

Am so happy for you! I know how hard you've been battling this demon and trying so hard. Am glad you have finally flicked the little demon off your shoulder and are "thinking positive". Keep up the good work! Prayers work! ***BIG HUG****

Woo Hoo

Wooo Hoooo Kinda Blue!!!

I too am on day seven. That third and fourth day were killers!!! I wanted that beer so bad!! However, I think you are right. Once the "poison" was out of my system, the craving went away. Don't get me wrong, a beer sounds pretty good about now, but there is no need to drink one. Congrats!!!

Congratulations on your seven days Diet coke.

I remember when I was just a few weeks sober my girlfriend and I went away on a road trip to the country.

We took the coastal roads and it was a very pleasant drive. But I remember the whole time I just could not get the thought of a cold beer out of my mind and the fact that I was never going to be able to safely drink again.......I had a strange melancholy feeling.......

Eventually we paused at a rest stop to freshen up and the thought of beer was still on my mind.I went inside and ordered a dietcoke and for a while we sat outside under some trees looking out at the boats on the water.

It was late evening and a very cool breeze was blowing.I looked at my girlfriend and I looked at the dietcoke in my hand and all of a sudden the thought hit me............."I can do this......I dont need alcohol to be happy and to enjoy my life....."

That was the turning point for me and today I am even more convinced that I dont need to drink to have fun or to feel good....today by the grace of my Higher Power and the Fellowship of AA my desire to drink has been removed from me.....
