Detox symptom?
Detox symptom?
I dont' know if this is a psychosymatic thing or if its an actual detox symptom or what but I am itching everywhere! If feels as if dozens of tiny bugs are crawling all over me. I tried to go to bed, but it was so bad I had to get up.
I've even showered and put on new pjs, just in case there was something crawling on me that I couldn't see. But I'm still itching like mad. I've dug my arms almost raw.
Everytime abstain from alcohol for more than 5 days, I always get this itching!

I remember the crawling bugs oh so well.
I don't think it's "all in your head."
Most people I know in Recovery have experienced this same thing.
I encourage you to talk to a Dr.
Alcohol detox can be very dangerous.
Hang tough though, Recovery is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced!

Stormy -
Lots of people have that symptom.
I did - but I thought it was because I was also detoxing off morphine.
It goes away.
You're doing great, by the way! remember that!

Yes it is a symptom for many.
the explanation I received is that as we drink, not only does the alcohol burn brain cells, it also burns the coverings off the nerve endings, and when we detox..................we get the 'creepy crawlies' and the 'itchies'.
It does go away, but is damn uncomfortable while it is happening. Maybe so we remember before we pick up a drink again, I don't know.
Just know it will abate in a few days. Any longer than that, contact your Dr.
Love and hugs,

It may be discussed on here...
I really don't remember
Post Acute Withdrawl - Relapse Prevention Specialists - TLC The Living Center
I do remember the symptom
I figured it was a mild form of D.T.'s
but that is only a guess.

its alcohol related unless you've been diagnosed with schizophrenia before this happened.
I've had tactile hallucinations similar to that and ones that you just wouldn't believe due to that brain disorder.
hope you hang in there and survive this, looking forward to the day they pass for you. take care.
