Poll--treatment centers, walk ins, and court ordered

Ok Taz's poll got me wondering about this so here it is. I personally am one of those who walked in the doors of a recovery program and have greater than 2 years sober.

ok i vote in this poll but would like to understand a lil more ...
a treatment centre is a clinical run detox centre... right?

when ur court ordered it means u have no choice, u must attend a treatment centre/ recovery program... right?

a recovery program.. is that AA, NA etc?

my curiosity is that of treatment variety... n how its sort, what is proven to be effective for majority groups. yeah i realise at this stage i'm trying to identify n best suited to a recovery thread. just hopin someone could clarify this poll n the basics of recovery thats addressed here. thanx

Good questions.
Your definitions were exactly what I had in mind.

Treatment centers = rehabs, detox centers, etc....

Court ordered = court says you have to be there. Have to get slips signed.

Recovery program = NA, AA, Lifering, SMART, Women for Sobriety, SOS, Dually diagnosed, religion (church), Spirituality (development of a spiritual program without utilizing one of the other recovery programs), etc..... Non mandated by court and not treatment centers

Hope that helps clarify things. Thanks for asking.

I walked into my first AA meeting. Two years of sobriety and I relapsed on benzos and booze. Went to treatment. Got another two years, relapsed again.
Got over two years sober now, and nearly two years clean.

I began a Spiritual search and found the right book at the right time. Later, I found SR.

I've been sober for 7 1/2 years.

I found my program, WFS, got sober, stayed that way for three weeks, and went into a treatment program for 28 days, I knew I needed a solid foundation for my recovery.

Sorry, but none of your choices apply.

To be totally honest, I was wheeled into an AA meeting, at the hospital, in a wheel chair, with lots of IV's still in me, after having the TOD put on my medical chart in the ER earlier that day.

Yes, I am way over 2 years sober now.

Yes, I took my alcoholism to the MAX.

I never used a program to stop drinking, I just got bored with it, and realized it was making any problems I had worse.

I did 28 days in rehab and begged to stay longer because I was afraid I'd use. After 45 days they released me and I went straight to an AA meeting. Still going to meetings (NA) and clean since 98'.

I walked into my first AA meeting a few years ago and never left. Well, I do go home now and then and to work and such, but you guys know what I mean.

I went to my first treatment center in 1981, ten years before I got sober. The first time was employer-ordered. I went to my first AA meeting about this time as well. I went to treatment three more times after that, the last one in 1986. The last three were court ordered. During this time I went to AA meetings.

Between 1986 and 1990, I went to AA meetings off and on, more off than on, and usually only to get the heat off.

In November 1990, I was driven to AA by alcohol. I drank for two more months after that. In January 1991 I was separated from alcohol by the Power of God and have been sober ever since.

Walked into a recovery program <2 years sober
Was my choice, my path was not exactly that, my path was Doctor-detox-AA. My arse was kicked, people had been on my butt for years to slow down or quit, alcohol taking my soul and then threatening my very life got me to the doctor, I was lost so if the doctor had told me to do push ups that is what I would have done, if detox had told me to bale hay I would have done that, but I would have wound up drunk again in no time. AA is what saved my bacon, detox simply got me over the easy part, the withdrawals....... AA got me through the war.

I walked into AA after finding these boards, OCt 2005. I went in and out for about 18 months including a 3 week stint in a luxurious 'rehab' (non 12 step) when i made my final geographical move (22nd March) I threw myself into AA. I am now more than 2 years sober (LOL! JUST!) As Taz says that's what got me through the war - every little bit helped but God's grace upon Grace upon Grace is what has kept me sober. I am so thankful for it. I could not live for very long being an active alcoholic again. Today I do not have to.

Last December I decided to stop drinking. Didn't have much success tho. In January I went to rehab. STayed for five days and went home, only to relapse. Went back to rehab in February for twelve days. Came home and relapsed again, after a few days. Have been trying on and off since then to really quit. Finally was able to get thru withdrawals (for the last time!) and have made it to nine days today. I do not want to mess up my current success so I keep reminding myself of how bad things were with alcohol and how awful the withdrawal was. So far, so good!
