Did a new behavior . . .
Had an emotionally challenging day yesterday.
Toward the end of my workday I wanted to numb my feelings with alcohol. The way I did it before. I knew I had to do something different. I called someone in the program and met her for a 7 pm mtg. She then took me to a Speaker mtg. after the first one we attended. By the time we got done at the meetings I felt so much better. She is very kind and 9 years sober.
I've really been putting my heart and soul into working the AA Program this time. I really want to recover. So far it has worked and not let me down.
Just wanted to share that.

That’s exactly what I put into it, heart and soul. Sounds like the woman you called might be someone who has some knowledge of the steps if she does she might be someone that can bring you through them. Early in the program I was on the lookout for a sponsor but I found it was much like bird watching, eventually they fly away. I had to get out of myself and ask.
I prayed, got a sponsor, read the Big Book, worked the steps, went to meetings, and got active. Congratulations on getting through your day with a positive ending and am glad you’re putting yourself out there. It sounds like your well on your way, Way to Go!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for being so honest... we all have days like that. Thank God for AA, for our sponsors, for others in the program and that we no longer HAVE to numb the feelings with alcohol...
Thank you -- you just gave me a big dose of gratitude!

Well done!
Actually, the only times that are really difficult for me are those last half hours of work. Not every day, but often enough. My "ritual" was to reward myself with an ice cold can of ale for getting through another stressful day.
Four weeks into this, I wonder how long it's gonna take to extinguish that Pavlovian response.
Your "handling" of the situation was textbook (BB). Shoud be required reading for the newbie. As they say, "It works if you work it."
You go,girl!

Thanks for sharing, Laurie.
It's inspiring to watch people change their lives. Isn't it so much better to learn to deal with life sober? It isn't always easier, but it is a better way of life. Not having a hangover is a real plus as well :-)

It certainly is Chip!
I went to a noon mtg. yesterday and there was a 30 something year old guy there who was completely distraught and said he wanted to take his life. My heart bled for him. Many men went to him after the mtg. to try and help. It was a definite reminder of just how low this dang disease takes us if we don't work a program of recovery.
