Observations and Anxiety
Hi all, Good to wake up sober again to another beautiful day in the Mtns, amazing how blind we are to the surroundings when we are drinking. I've got the Stephen King book's The Gunslinger, had them for awhile and never could read them, used to enjoy reading, anyway now that i am sober i can actually start on that series of 7 rather large books and enjoy them, hell i will even be able to remember the first book by the time i get to the seventh one. (Hopefully) if i have not damaged the old noggin too much..
The only problem i seem to have at the moment is the anxeity, have tried working in the yard and such to help reduce it, but as soon as i stop its right there. Doc has given me meds for it but they do not seem to help, strange i have this, because if anyone remembers my situation, before when i would stop drinking the anxiety would only last a few day's, but this is different can't seem to shake it. I used to have panic attacks when i drank daily (had to drink daily) but none of that in yrs, i hope they don't come back, because they are the worst.
Anyone that can give advise on anxiety and how you deal -dealt with it would help. Just can't detour my mind from it this time ..
Take care, John

John for me the steps, prayer and meditation. It took me some time to be able to simply sit still and let the world go by without my feeling a need to interfer with it. Accepting the good things in my life and not fretting over yesterday or tomorrow, just simply drinking in the day.
It took practice and prayer. Meetings and talking on the phone helepd, I used to carry a 3X5 card in my hip pocket with my gratitude list on it, reading that let me see the good in my life and not focus on the imaginary bad that may come.
I have heard some folks here and in meetings share that journaling helps them.

I was told by a old timer if my mind was racing that I still had some un resolved fears, resentments,or harms done to others, which can also produce anxiety.
John, you might want to look in that area and see if you can find something.

Your doc...
Just a good old MD/GP or are you seeing a psychiatrist? If not a psych, I would suggest trying one. They know so much more about anxiety than any MD/GP. There are tons of anxiety drugs out there and they help different people in different ways.
If you have the means to see a psych, I would do that for sure.
