Constipation?
When I was drinking I was full of sh*t, everything seems ok now, honestly, I don't have experience with this and don't want to make light of a problem if it's a serious condition, my advice, prayer and prune juice and a visit with your Doctor, pronto.
I had a problem of not giving a crap before finding recovery *LOL*
Talk with your Dr.
Eat veggies and grains. Less red meat...
and depending upon your age...
Maybe look into a colonoscopy.
As we get past middle age, it is a good idea to have such a checkup.

Really, go with Metamucil. It's actually good for you, and really does work. And I have constipation REALLY bad because I'm on Methadone, and opiates leave you totally constipated....I have tried others like Dulcolax, but nothing works like Metamucil......

I forced myself to stop drinking with no support group of any kind, I was an alcoholic. Three years later, no relapses, and I thank God I stopped killing myself, it was worse than awful. Now, I've just got to wean off benzos......

I eat 40+ grams of fiber a day
I drink 2x the recomended amount of water.
I excercise. Personally I think I need to get more magnesium when I eat calcium rich foods like dairy but that wasn't the question.
I didn't ask how to deal with constipation... I asked how common it is.
That being said I do appreciate you all taking the time to give me advice.

See a doctor!
I experienced slight constipation after I had been sober a few weeks, sobriety I have found in the long run has led to my drawers staying a lot cleaner!!! LOL
To rid myself of the constipation I simply ate a balanced diet. If it is bad see a doctor.

have you ...
have you solved this problem? I haven't had an issue with it.
I do know that being diabetic can cause constipation.
you should consider seeing a doctor if the issue persist.
be sure to keep a list of other symptoms as well,
maybe dry mouth, frequent urination, exesive thirst, low energy,
what ever may be an issue for you at this time. prunes are a great
way to get relief along with milk of magnessia (MOM) ---
DIDN'T SAY i COULD SPELL BUT i TRY!
It is likely to be very common among A's. When every thing going in is liquid everthing going out is liquid. When you stop with the liquid diet and begin eating food that's good for you your body has to adjust, it's not used to the solid stuff. IMHO>
