some times when we share our experience it comes off as if we are trying to prove we are right. We may really be trying to share our own experience to try and help.

my second sponser used to stop me and some other younger guys in the program when we used certain words or phrases. Those words or phrases he had found did not appeal to the mind of a alcoholic. He had learned thru his experience of better ways to communicate by using words the alcoholic mind could and would grasp easier.

sometimes he would say, lets set that aside and try some thing like this_________

one example

aa guy 20 yrs sober:
I screwed up something yesterday,oh well,I`m still sick,what can I say?
sponser:
is it catching? Why don`t we say we`re just not quite well yet?It paints a better picture for the newcomer if we do.
newcomer:
20 years sober and still sick?I don`t know if this AA can help me or not.Do I want what you have?

over time,as we gain better soberiety, improving ways we word things is a plus

Matt88,

Good post, I would edit the author with Self-righteous; something I know absolutely nothing about really. LOL
