muscle atrophy from heavy drinking

has anyone experienced muscle atrophy from their drinking?

there was about a 5 year period where i drank heavy and had very poor nutrition. Over that period my arms got quite skinny and i developed muscle weakness in my arms and legs. I'm wondering if i did some damage to my muscle or nerve tissue because even though i've quit drinking i still have the weakness and muscle loss in my arms.

I remember when i used to drink hard alcohol i would get a sudden weak and pain feeling in my arms. Felt it right to the bone sometimes.

I heard a lady talk about this. She even wound up in a wheelchair from it. Fortunately for her it reversed itself once she quit drinking although it took some work to get back on her feet.

I would discuss it with my doctor if it were me. Depending on how long ago you quit it may be something that your doctor might find treatable.

Good luck with it. I do hope you find a solution.

Check with a doctor, we do tend to suffer from malnutrition due to heavy long term drinking.

muscle loss is one of the things the MD's check in recovery alcoholics. you should ask an MD why this is so.
