Alcoholics crave tomatoes?
Alcoholics crave tomatoes?
Yes, I know this is a weird one. I'm just wondering if it's common and if so.. why would it be??
I would always crave tomatoes after a couple days of binge drinking.
I'd pour some sea salt out and chow down on 2 or 3 of these things faster than I could inhale. I havent been craving them at all since I stopped drinking. Coinsidence? Nah, I don't think so. It always went hand n hand next day after a session of heavy drinking.

ok - number one - avatar - yeesh...
Number two -
I can't remember which book it was - either Dr. Bob and the Oldtimers, or something - but Dr. Silkwood had early recoverying alcoholics eating tomatoes ... and sour kraut ...
ok.
ewwww.
But still - I thought you'd find it interesting.
He was convinced it detoxed the internal organs more efficiently and quickly.

I clearly remember reading the tomato and sauerkraut remedy...think it was "Dr. Bob and the Oldtimers", not sure...
I guess we could debate the Bloody Mary cure. LOL, is it the tomato juice or the vodka?
Hope you don't mind, I've stayed in the shadows here for a while. I have 13 days sober and just need to jump in and start to get to know you all.
Thanks!

Hi Barb - It is welcome back, again and again and again. Only nobody knew that they would be welcoming me back, because I tried to stay a silent partner in this journey in recovery. It just don't work that way. I am attending meetings and I do have a sponser. When she asked me where I could possibly reach out to at least start becoming more visable, also accountable I told her about this site. She told me to start reaching out today. I work the night shift, so that is why I am usually on here late. Figure this is a beginning.
Thanks for remembering which book I read that in ... LOL
I was very new to recovery and read two of the 'oldtimer' historical books right in a row - and find my mind has kind of ... blended the two books.
So, Sonny -
I think maybe your body spoke to you in a way that made you reach for whatever it was that needed cleaning out and fast. So you don't wind up like your avatar.
*shudder*

Hi sonny, I would think that if you are craving tomatoes its probably a good idea to satisfy that craving, your body is probably just telling you what it needs most. JMO.
I find that in those first few days I crave food in general!
