Its been a week since I first started this thread. Thank you all for your support.

It sure was nice waking up New Years morning without a hangover and remembering everything I'd done the night before.

Hey, welcome. I am just coming back. I commend you for realizing that you have to abstain from alcohol. Its a great start. Setting monthly time goal for abstinence is just a count down timer to obliteration. Every morning when you get up tell yourself, just for today. If only i could have caught it at your age, i had the same drinking pattern as you. As mentioned it does progress especially for bingers. One year in addiction is equal to two in hell. At 37 i have spent to many years in hell.

Isn't denial crazy, my dad sounds like yours. I have to stay away. His denial drives me nuts. Offering me drinks somehow forgetting how alcohol has devastated my life.

Stay connected. Meet friends who successfully fight the same battle. Good luck. I have been clean for 120+ days, one day at a time.

One day at a time works very well, in early sobriety that got me over the hump many times, I made a decision every morning to just not drink that day and asked in prayer to be granted that power and the power needed to do my HPs will that day, that was it, nothing more.

Well if during the course of the day I started getting that craving for a beer real bad I would simply make a decision to not drink that day and to decide the following day if I was going to drink that day...... for some odd reason putting off the decision to drink until the next day kicked that cravings butt!!!! For that day.

Sitting here reading this thread I can relate to much of it. I'm also 25. I stopped drinking 2 years ago for 6 months. I thought at the time I had this disease beat. While at a friends house one saturday watching football I let them talk me into drinking 1 beer. I had no intention of drinking but gave into peer pressure convincing myself I could now control my drinking. After 1 beer I said why not 1 more. Fastforward 2 hours and I"m driving home with a 12 pack in the car. Within 2 weeks I was back to drinking daily. Fastforward 2 years and this time I'll see if I've learned my lesson.

Hey CD Run,

I'm with you. At the young age of 25 I feel the exact same. Once I have even a sip its on. I'll be getting blasted for sure. I can't just have that one beer. Football and drinking do seem to go hand in hand with most fans and friends. It sure would be nice to just have 1 or 2 beer and be cool but I can't do that.

I thought I could have 1 or 2 but proved myself wrong. I'll chalk that up as experience and this time I see it has to be all or nothing staying sober.
