I'm new here - my first post
Hello. My name is Elizabeth and I'm an alcoholic. I've been sober since April 30, 2007.
I'm so glad this place is here. I recently left another (quit drinking) support site and was feeling incredibly dissolusioned about the entire on-line support experience until a friend directed me here. THIS board is exactly the kind of place I want and need to be. A place that is moderated, with just and decent rules, a place that is safe and based on being a place of help, support, encouragement and ... ultimately compassion and kindness. I am greatful for the other site as it helped get me on my feet in my journey of sobriety. I will be 8 months sober on December 30. :bounce However, when some of the people and the way things are at the other site began to drive me TO WANT drink and not AWAY from drinking and I knew that I had to cut most ties and get away from there.
I have gained some very good friends from that site, whom I am truly blessed to keep in touch with and for that I will always be thankful for having had the experience of that site. I'm also truly thankful for the help I received through my first 5 months sober. Over the last 2 months, it has been an excrutiating struggle to stay sober, with all the difficult issues of my own life and recovery and the negatives of that site becoming more and more apparent. Now that I'm approaching 8 months sober, I am so thankful to find a more stable and balanced support site.
I look around here and see a lot of really great places to contribute to and a lot of wonderful options as to where one can reach out for help, express oneself, learn from others and be a support to others. I'm so thankful that my friend helped me find this place.
I look forward to being a part of things here.

Welcome to SR. Glad to hear you are looking forward to sticking around a bit. I have enjoyed the format of this site. I did try several recovery sites prior to this but none compared to this so I did not continue to utlize any of them. When I post here I know I will recieve feedback, although it is not always what I want to hear it always provides me with other perspectives than my own, which is a great tool for learning and growing. I look forward to seeing more of your posts.
