There were brief moments that I was ashamed of my lack of concern about my family, but they were fleeting and then like any good alcoholic I got back into MY WORLD. As a practicing alcoholic our vision gets so tunneled that pretty soon we only see ourselves and we wallow in our self pity and self absorption.

I believe that if an alcoholic ever starts to see the damage they are doing and really understand it then they can no longer continue to drink, and that is when sobriety seeking really begins. Unfortunately that view has to come from within. No amount of lecturing, yelling, pleading, or even reasoning will cause that awareness. It is as it is called, A MOMENT OF CLARITY.

Mine was 8 years ago and life got really good really fast. I however, wasn't able to explain it to my drug addicted son until he had his own awaking.
